I can make your optical drives disappear!

Ok, not really, but here's the problem. For no apparent reason, my computer no longer recognizes my CD/DVD drive. It doesnt appear as an attached device. Oddly enough, my Linux Partition can see it and it still works just fine. Windows does not detect it at all. I have no idea where to go with this one. Needless to say I still have a good number of uses for this drive and need to get it back somehow. Ideas?

Have you checked the "Device Manager" to see if the drive's been disabled?

Have you reset or just turned off and on your computer? Will it work?

as fate would have it, there was a problem with the registry entry. after removing the problematic entries and reinstalling the drivers, all is well
