Thanks for the clarification there, pal. I was beginning to think you were being serious.

What the hell is with us and Doom? Granted, we don't go posting about Doom in elevator forums.

Growing trend. Growing exponentially. There's tons of people that like 'em, and as they see a video like this (how I took the plunge), they get a camera, and go riding.

The numbers are still small, but:

3 enthusiasts on YouTube in 2007
12 in 2008
200+ so far this year (August,2009)

"Normals" that find these videos: almost never happened, until late last year. Now it's somewhat frequent.

FACT: Some malls in Pennsylvania have major security overhauls over the last year, because so many people are using mall elevators just to record a ride on them.

FACT: Massachusetts has at least 3 enthusiasts that record their rides. I am one of them, but has by far, the fewest rides logged.

FACT: The right elevator can get you over 40,000 hits! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi10Pi9JOds&feature=channel_page

This one, only a mere 31,000 hits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTeNV25H63w&feature=channel_page

You get the idea. It's not as odd as most think.

Any group that refers to those outside of their group as "normals" is exactly as odd as most think.

That's just me. It's still an off-beat topic. 4,400 videos are found when entering "elevator rides", some, not really rides.

Oh come on give the guy a break. If its his hobby let him be with it, after all its not like religiously playing a sixteen year old game would exactly be considered normal by most people either. The most I would complain about is that threads like these should probably be in the Blogs section instead of EE.

Or at least confined to a single thread.

But either way, George/REoL is a hundred kinds of crazy anyway, regardless of his strange elevator fetish.

I'm lost... how are elevators an enthralling topic with it's own community. What the hell do elevator enthusiasts do? Log all the models they see in a book? Someone enlighten me.

I almost started to miss his Slum threads from ND. Then I realized it is fiffy we are talking about.

Upcoming thread: Carpets! These amazing, threaded fabrics are a boon to the world over. See multiple photos of high quality, modern carpets, compared to vintage, threadbare relics of the yesteryear!

random:
how many of you have ridden on an elevator in a hospital bed. I have in a hospital after surgery, and it was the coolest ride ever.

Everything is on the internet. I'm actually a little phobic of elevators, give or take being a little anxious while riding one. But seriously, we all have hobbies. I myself had a Rubik's cube fanaticism for about 6 months straight. Still do it every once in a while...

I have a dark feeling that this thread may turn into a "Darkest Secrets" thread... sounds fun >=D!

Yep, can't think of many things more exciting or thrilling then riding an elevator. Just hop on in, push floor 2, and prepare for the craaaaaazy ride!

I used to live in an apartment building on the 9th floor, and found that if I put my key fob in the doors and opened them in transit, the lift would emergency-stop with a sickening lurch. It then resumed when the doors closed.

I played this prank on several of my friends, one of whom I didn't know was amazingly scared of heights and we were all a bit drunk at the time. He fell to the floor in the corner and turned white, we had to pick him up and help him inside where he just sat on the couch for 5 minutes staring and not saying a word. It was hilarious :D

I bet George doesn't watch normal porn, but faps to that scene in Mallrats after T.S. shops Shannon getting in the lift. We should help George out and think of other sexy elevator scenes, or do you lift guys already have like a wiki for that kinda thing?

Now i have to go to Peterburough again and record a ride in a glass elevator!

I swear there used to be ones in another shopping centre in Cambridge too, but it doesn't really have an "upstairs" except at one end so i don't know where they actually went.

Elevators move up and down a shaft. Maybe that's why he likes them?

"What about the elevator?"
"Uh...it goes up and down?"

Hey, train spotting is a serious hobby in England.

And here is my favorite elevator video:

And on a related yet off-topic note:

I finally watched the actual video in the OP. Must say, I'm glad you terminated the run early, as you say, "otherwise this would have been a long boring video".

Good thing didn't happen hey.

I watched it after making my post and the one thing that interested me was that there was a mezzanine between the 3rd and 4th floors. Usually those are between the ground floor and the second, or so I thought. Also, TOO MUCH FAT YOU GOTTA CUT THE LEAN YOU GOTTA TAKE THE ELEVATOR TO THE MEZZANINE.

Heh, I can't ride those because I'm DEATHLY afraid of heights. I don't see how the hell anyone can enjoy elevators, much less have a fetish/obsession.
