Creating Custom Sprites/Monsters with XWE

How does one go about creating new Sprites and Monsters with XWE?

I do not want to replace the existing ones, but create new ones from scratch (too many sprites you see). Are there any tutorials or guides that show a newbie how to create a basic static sprite from scratch?

What you need is an image editor, which can be something basic like MSPaint though everyone has their personal preferences in that regard.

No, I don't think I made myself clear.

I already have all my sprites sorted. I want now to put them into XWE, but rather than replace existing sprites (such as the Candlestick) I want to put my own in, as I do with wall textures. I simply have too many, and I am well aware that this will involve a bit of lump work but I'm willing to learn. I assume that making a static sprite is easier than making a new monster, so I would like a basic tutorial as to making my own custom sprites from scratch without the need to replace existing ones.
