eargosedown Posted December 19, 2009 After 16 years, the truth must come out! I have found the origins of what Prince based The "At Doom's Gate" E1M1 sound off of, and it is NOT No Remorse or Master of Puppets! What many fail to realize is the time that the final touches were put on the game. One of these final touches was the opening track, something to really kick the player into the intense feel of the game. After many attempts to find the right move, Prince went to the best place for inspiration: His inner child! What sensation was sweeping North America at the time? You guessed it! Might Morphin Power Ranger! As you can tell from this video, the main rift of the song is nearly identical to that of E1M1! The picking of the last two strings being similar to --77--55--77--123 00--00--00--00--- E1M1 (Which you can listen to in MIDI here to compare!) is picked similar to: --77--55--33--123 00--00--00--00--- There's also the coincidence in dates: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first aired on August 28th, 1993. Plenty of time for Prince to fall in love with the opening rift and find a way to sneak it into doom! The proof is there! There is no denying it! E1M1 was based off the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers themesong! /discuss! this is a joke by the way!!!! Happy 16th birthday doom :D 0 Share this post Link to post

Mattfrie1 Posted December 20, 2009 I knew I should have read the comments first so I didn't have to waste 30 seconds reading the OP'S post... ;) On a more serious note, I've never been able to really tell if it was No Remorse or Master of Puppets that inspired E1M1's song. I would personally go more with No Remorse, but both songs are good and could have equally inspired E1M1's song. 0 Share this post Link to post

Ninjalah Posted December 20, 2009 I also was listening to Painkiller the other day, and the main riff sounds alot like E1M1 too, although alot slower. (Hey hey, whouldja look at that. I remembered how to embed youtube videos. Nobody cares....) Oh and 'x' then 'D' is censored. I forgot who told me who brought upon this censorship, but apparently an admin/mod got sick of them over using the smiley. 0 Share this post Link to post

Ninjalah Posted December 20, 2009 Noticed that soon as I posted the damn video. Too lazy to edit. Anyway, was it some trend for metal back then to have that same riff, seen in E1M1, No Remorse, Master of Puppets, etc.? 0 Share this post Link to post
Nomad Posted December 20, 2009 Death's cover of the song is better anyway :D 0 Share this post Link to post

[/opinion] And after reading the comments on the second link provided by eargosedown, I see I'm not the only one that thinks the two songs have similarities. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nomad Posted December 20, 2009 Oh, please. The vocals in the cover are no different from Halford's screaming. Not liking it is totally fine, but jeez. 0 Share this post Link to post

I don't know, reminds me of modern scream-o bands which make me want to drill my knee caps. But we're starting to hijack this... er... respectable thread... back on topic. 0 Share this post Link to post

(Just kidding about the first part, but seriously, comparing Death to screamo should be a cardinal sin) 0 Share this post Link to post
PRIMEVAL Posted December 20, 2009 Ohhhhhh Death Metal is NOT screamo! Chuck Schuldiner and his band Death are pioneers of Death Metal. I'm very defensive of my beloved genre lol. That riff is used in a lot of different Rock and Metal songs. There's something about that Da de de Da de de Da de de Da de de Daa rhythm that just sounds cool. 0 Share this post Link to post

Sorry about that, but IMO scream-o is a bunch of pubescent emos trying to imitate Metal/Death Metal/etc. It was, indeed, a cardinal sin for me to relate Death to today's terrible music. Terrible... terrible music. 0 Share this post Link to post

magicsofa Posted December 21, 2009 On a scale of 0 to retarded...this is dumb Your tabs are totally fucked. You have four notes when there should be three (0-0-7 not 0-0-7-7). EDIT: Also power rangers tab is just wrong. The high note doesn't change, it goes ..7..7..7..7.778 By the way...what is a 'rift'? 0 Share this post Link to post
