I am well aware that you Gentlemen (and Ladies) may not expect much of me. but, I promise that this next mod that I am now working on will be the one that establishes my name among those giant who have come before in the artisic field of doom modding. the focus of this mod is to provide some classic gameplay while changing the elements of the game itself to create an enjoyable partial conversion with four episode of four maps apiece.

the premise of this mod is a simple one indeed.

"James Barrows is a treasure hunter under the employ of an unamed collector of ancient relics. James recieves a call from his employer. someone or a group of someones have stolen
a golden chalice from his collection. he offers a large payment for its return. James begins his investigation at the local pub.
after several hours of fruitless questions it became plain that
no-one knew who had stolen the relics. as he leaves someone
knocks him out... James wakes up in some sort of underground cell.
Lucky for James that they didn't check him for lockpicks..."

Those who choose to play this mod will find that the story unfolds in a manner similiar to DOOM 1 & 2. But enough of the chatter, let us now get the the screenshots.

These screenshot are all from E1M1 of my mod. The map's name is "Something Wicked..." for those of you who may be interested.

and as for progress I can safely say that I am 50% done with my mod.

Edit:I forgot to mention that this mod is only meant for Gzdoom Version 1.4.0 because of a strange graphical glitch that happens when you run it in 1.4.1 concerning the enemies sprite animations.

Eh, I wouldn't make such a promise. Either you're going to go back on it, or you're going to drive yourself mad in the process.

Try for "I am going to make something that is fun to play."

The last two screenshot yards are too cramped. Expand them. You gain space for LOTS of nice things if you move part of the map to enlarge a cramped room.

@Printz:I see what I can do about the problem you have mentioned.
@Kyka:I am glad you think my mod has potential, I try my best with this one!.
@DuckReconMajor:You don't have to worry about me. I have planned on reducing the stressful part of this work by cutting my mod into four episodes with four maps apiece, leaving me with 16 maps total when I'm done.

Also, I have some screenshots from the current map that I'm working on, namely E3M1:On The shores of Alcatraz.

The boat at the start of the level. Also at the start of the level you'll have to fight three Imps and you'll get the shotgun strait from the get-go.

after you fight the Imps you notice a switch. pressing it will get you access to a cave where you fight a ShotGunner and a SuperShotGunner while wearing blue armor that you can get at the start of the level.

Fightin' some Clinks, a few Cultist and Four Undead Knight and an Arachnotron with some ammo drops near by and the Blood Shotgun (Which replaces the SuperShotgun).

@40oz:This is not just heretic with guns, *******it!! This is a partial conversion that is somewhat inspired by Monolith's Blood, HERIAN and HERIAN 2, as well some elements of recent games that have a treasure hunter as a protagonist (LA-MULANA anyone?). But my mod gameplay focus is towards classic First Person Shooter action rather than anything else. You'll see when the time comes.

I still need to add more to the map because this map is not finished yet. I also need to work a few kinks in the map design. any suggestion would be widely appreciated.

My sister has recently done me a favor and polished up my title screen. criticism would be gladly appreciated.

That new title pic is in dire need of some lens flares. Add a few hundred of those and it'll be perfect.

Needs a bit more contrast, for now it's kinda dim. But it's better than the one from the first post. However, does Doom draw it well?

I'd change the demon-infested corridor floors to something more rocky looking (if that's what you were going for). That texture looks like plastic tiles from those Doom 1 UAC bases. Try MFLR8_1 instead.

I think the new titlepic is too bright. Also, I think you should try to remove those artifacts around the new chalice. Maybe some details in the white area as well, but that's not too necessary.

I apologize about the quality of this latest batch of screenshots. I might replace them soon. and on another note, I just finished making E3M2 of my mod, and to think that it me 2 and 3/4 hours to map it out.

the video quality is actually quite good.

Your maps are actually pretty good. My biggest turn off however is that it appears you tried very hard to make doom into something that it is not. There are plenty of other wads in this similar vein (as well as people that enjoy them) but you can definitely count me out of your target audience. I'm sure there are people that would get a rise out of this but it's certainly not me.

Things that bother me the most:

- Lack of original resources (resulting in an inconsistent style)
- Way too many new sounds/monsters/textures (This wad is probably two hundred million megabytes)
- Different assortment of weapons

I'm not tryin to put you down or anything, but this steers way too far off of doom's course and the result is rather sloppy.

My project also tends into that direction, because I can't draw for shit. Sorry 40oz.

I like this video. I'm starting to get excited for your project. On the back of 40oz's advice though, try not to put new resources in just because you can. What I saw wasn't too bad, though.
