mammajamma Posted February 27, 2010 You know, there have been quite a few threads here recently that have been very politically heated, pertaining to topics ranging from California's economic situation to people jailed on obscenity charges to simple party affiliation. So I wondered, where do most of the posters here lie politically? Then it hit me. The Political Compass. Basically, you take a 40 or 50 question test and it calculates your position based on both economic and social factors, like so: So where does Doomworld lie on the political compass? I'd really like to know. If this thread ends up a success, I'll post my results. 0 Share this post Link to post

Nomad Posted February 27, 2010 Last time I took one of these, I was right about in the middle, in the libertarian left a bit. I can't be arsed to do it again as I imagine it's still pretty accurate. 0 Share this post Link to post

ArmouredBlood Posted February 27, 2010 http://www.politicalcompass.org/facebook/pcgraphpng.php?ec=-4.50&soc=-1.90 Yer. I was rather centrist in the facebook one, never really checked the 'strongly (dis)agree' boxes. 0 Share this post Link to post

Guess I was wrong. 0 Share this post Link to post
Snakes Posted February 27, 2010 Economic: -6.38 Social: -4.87 This is actually a huge difference compared to 4 years ago. I last took this right after high school, and then I had a -9, -9 rating or something like that. Since then, I've become more of a realist, and less of an idealist. Now I'm just realistic about my ideals, I guess. I'm pretty shocked that I've gotten that much closer to authoritarian, though... Probably because I thought more about consequences this time than last. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted February 27, 2010 TBH, I like this quiz a little more: politicalquiz.net mostly because I feel it fits me better. My Results Are: Conservative/Progressive score: 6 You are a social moderate. You think the progressive movement is overall well meaning, but sometimes it goes too far. On issues like abortion and affirmative action, you see the negatives of both extremes on the issue. You probably value religion, but at the same time you think it should still stay separate from the government My Results Are: Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 4 You are a Moderate Capitalist. You support an economy that is by and large a free market, but has public programs to help people who can't help themselves or need a little help. Pretty much you believe in the American economy how it currently is. My Results Are: Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 0 You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism. My Results Are: Pacifist/Militarist score: 10 You're a Militarist. You believe that since the United States has so much power in the world, it has a responsibility to keep the world safe. You think that if the US does not exert its power in the world, it may eventually lose its power, and that we can not look weak in the face of terrorists, and must take them out where they live. My Results Are: Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Libertarian 0 Share this post Link to post

Snakes Posted February 27, 2010 Mr. Freeze said:TBH, I like this quiz a little more: politicalquiz.net mostly because I feel it fits me better. Heh, this gave me far more extreme results. Conservative/Progressive score: 10 You are a social progressive. You generally consider yourself a humanist first. You probably think that religion and patriotism go too far in society. You probably consider yourself to be a citizen of Earth first rather than a citizen of your country. Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 12 You're a Social Capitalist, you think that, left to its own, Capitalism leaves a lot of people behind. You think that Health Care should be free to all, that the minimum wage should be raised, and that the government should provide jobs to all that are capable of having them. You likely hated the Bush tax cuts, and believe that the middle class has gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer over the past several years. The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism. Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 2 You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascist Pacifist/Militarist score: 2 You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems. I don't know if I like this quiz better, and it seems designed strictly towards USA civilians. So, in the context of US politics, I'd be labeled a nutjob, communist, pussy-ass sunnuvabitch, I guess. 0 Share this post Link to post

Belial Posted February 27, 2010 Politicalquiz says I'm a Hardcore Democrat with scores of 12, 12, 2, 0. Too US-centric to be useful anyway. Saddest shit on the site:4. Should intelligent design be taught in public schools alongside evolution? - 50% said yes, 50% said no 9. Should we end (or reduce the use of) the death penalty? - 41% said yes, 59% said no 0 Share this post Link to post
Jodwin Posted February 27, 2010 http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-5.62&soc=-3.18 I don't know if it's any useful at all though, since the "political compasses" vary a lot in different countries. Ie. in USA I'd be far-far left, while in Finland I'd be on the right. This kind of polls are also difficult to properly evaluate how important some single issue is to you or in general, so giving proper weight to it is hard or even impossible. So the only thing you can get from the compass is a general idea, which still might be pretty far from the truth. 0 Share this post Link to post
