Call of Duty 7: Vietnam

Recommended Posts

Source: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=230972

Anyone here actually cares about Call of Duty anymore? Are they going to give us dedicated servers this time? Makes one "wonder"...

More details: [1], [2]

Vietnam is said to focus heavily on the story, specifically the struggles of each individual platoon member. And pacing of the game is rumoured to follow movies such as Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket.

Ah fu---*facepalm*

Of all the series out there, Call of Duty's quickly catching up to Final Fantasy territory. :| It's frightening.

Personally, I enjoyed the original Modern Warfare, and World At War, but this is pushing it. We only just got Modern Warfare 2, and now ANOTHER one again?

Somebody boot out Kotick from Activision. Please.

I've only played Airborne and World at War. Never bothered with the others.

I'd rather play MOHAA honestly.

How soon until they throw in the Korean War, Desert Storm, Falklands, Enduring Freedom and War On Terror into the pot?

Not that I care, Battlefield 1942 is still King, baby!

Falklands seems unlikely. It was more a big PR/morale boost operation than a conflict. Not even a thousand casualties, counting both sides. Argentine dictatorship tried a "patriotic" gambit to get popular support back; UK seized the occasion to turn it into their big "we're still a great power" show, cause they were still sore from the humiliation of the Suez Crisis*. Cue super-expensive "Black Buck Raids" that accomplished effectively nothing, other than demonstrate that the RAF could perform super-expensive bombing raids.

* That'd be another unlikely theme for a war game.

Call of Duty 8: The American Revolution

Really though, Activision is one of the biggest reasons I view this generation of gaming so negatively. Both of the Call of Duty and Guitar Hero franchises have irked me (Although COD wasn't always this way I thought :/.)

Call of Duty: World War I

You spend the first several campaigns sitting in a trench scraping fungus off of your feet. In the last you charge straight at a machine gun nest and die with several thousand other men.

I'd say it's about time we see a good Vietnam shooter (I can't think of any except maybe Battlefield: Vietnam), but..

Call of Duty: Napoleonic Campaigns

Fight in closed order wearing highly visible outfits, as you take two minutes to reload while row after row of your company shoots one after another in unison, at your superiors' order. Your rifle has great power and range, your enemies are very visible, exposed and tall targets but the rifles' precision leaves a bit to be desired, at those distances, and after a few barrages you can see jack because of the heavy smoke caused by the black powder. Getting hit is rare, but when it happens, you'll have a whole 20mm soft lead projectyle to fuck you up real good, man.

Other than that, the gameplay includes long tranfer marches, dealing with dissenteria, taking care of your ridicolously adorned uniform, and the eventual melee bayonet or cavalry charge, which just fucks you up pretty badly after you've taken the only shot you can afford before they reach your lines.

How about Falklands II: Electric Boogaloo, coming July 2010.

Seriously, Argentina has been trying to lay claim to them again recently.

Yes, because despite what many frat boy MW2 players say, Treyarch are the better developer of COD games.

Regardless, I can't say I'm very interested. I was way more excited when rumours were going around that it was going to have a "What-if" Cold War theme.

Well, I might consider it, seeing as Treyarch actually cared about the community enough to give us stats and all. IW DID make a really addictive game (CoD: 4), but eh, Call of Duty needs to die already.

What's next? COD8: World War III?

"Now Call of Duty adapts the same setting that's been in every other FPS on the market these days: a post-apocalyptic wasteland filled with mutants! Play a dumbed-down Fallout 3 because douchebags don't know good games and they're just fanboys!"

Fucking swords with noob-tubes ruining multiplayer!

The noob-tubes would be Holy Hand Grenades.

COD11: 4chan

Play as an obese nerd in a dysfunctional online community as you try to rise to infamy as an elite troll. Raid IRC rooms, Omegle, and gaming forums! Your arsenal includes shock porn, malicious code, overused internet memes, an uncanny ability to make people feel insulted, and total disregard of reason. This will be an RPG as opposed to an FPS due to the non-FPS friendly environment.

The beginning of the game will be spent on an image board where you post doomed memes and call anyone who steps out of your favor a "newfag"

At the end, some hacker takes out 4chan and hijacks your computer, thus rendering your existence pointless, and you commit suicide.

Multiplayer will consist of people flaming each other until someone is left standing after all the others' sanity is completely destroyed.

Wow, have fun turning the Vietnam War into a fucking ridiculous cinematic action movie. All Vietnam video games are miserably bad because the war was miserable, and not fought like other wars. If they tried to make this game realistic it would be like this:

Opening scene: you get dropped into an LZ under no fire. There's no one there. You get out onto the rice paddy, and then make way for the jungle. You step into the jungle with your platoon in a very close row. You can only see the person directly in front of you because the foliage is so deep. If you look away for a second, you get lost. Whoever is on point will step on a booby trap and die or become seriously wounded. Then you'll get fired on from all angles and not be able to see anyone around you. You won't ever see anyone you kill, because of the foliage.

Second scene: You go into a village of "civilians" who are all unarmed. You can't shoot them, because if you do you're a war criminal and get court marshaled. All of the civilians are like "VC numbah 10, GI numbah 1!" and smiling at you and looking all happy. Nothing happens. You leave the village, and then that night the same people shoot at you from the concealment of the pitch black jungle all night and don't let you sleep, but hardly ever hit anything.

What this game will be like: You will play as some dumb British guy for no reason at all and run really fast through a straight line in the jungle shooting exploding barrels and dropping all of the enemies that pop out into the open, ditching their cover, for you to kill in plain sight.

CoD: War on Terror

Take on the role of one of the many opportunistic voltures that exploited the "War on Terror" for their own advantage. From Israeli security firm instructors/consultants, American and South African "Contractor" mercs downto private airport security guards making their own rules and giving attitude to random passengers whose face they didn't like, place your own little stone in the great Fight against Global Terrorist in defense of Democracy and the Western way of living. Sieg heil!
