Steeveeo Posted April 10, 2010 Someone showed me this a bit ago, and I have been amazed at it. This thing is the Video Game Name Generator, and I think it is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. This fun web-app does exactly what it says it does, it generates a random video game name (Video Game Idea Generator, anyone?). Sounds simple enough, but let's just take a look at some of its productions: Fancy Amish Epidemic Australian Skydiving Reloaded Maniac Janitor in the Dark Drug-Induced Guitar Bastards Cool Casino - The Lost Levels Presidential Gimp Jihad Bionic Jazz Factory Pro Tricycle Struggle Demonic Pokemon X-treme Stealth Mummy Attack Rad Hang Glider Detective These are just a few of the choice names that popped out of the generator, and there are many others. What kinds of awesome names can you get it to output? EDIT: Also, "Dracula's Hoedown of the Damned" 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted April 10, 2010 Heh - I'm bookmarking this as a map name generator. Caribbean Dwarf Boxing Sexy Beast Reloaded Everybody Hates the Cheese Camp The Muppets Jackhammer Annihilation Jedi Soccer Strikes Again Fantastic Penguin vs. Street Fighter Iron Dentist Planet 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted April 10, 2010 Not so much video game names as B-movie titles IMO. Dead or Alive Combat Police Def Jam Ping Pong in the Sky Lethal Zamboni from Hell Mystery STD Munchers Revenge of the Wrestling from Hell Cyber Plumber Saloon Attack of the Fishing Stadium Occult Matador Conundrum Though I'll admit this one would do a fine "edutainment" title: British Spelling Park 0 Share this post Link to post
pavera Posted April 10, 2010 Papal Internet from Outer Space Mystic Chocobo - The Quickening Pagan Shaving Playhouse Royal Spelling Siege Ebony Piano Farmer Mary Kate and Ashley's Shaving Power Nihilistic Equestrian Punishment Third-World Music Conquest If only we saw games like these nowadays. 0 Share this post Link to post

Creaphis Posted April 10, 2010 EDIT: Yeah I keep pruning this post because I keep finding better ones. I'm getting some good oxymorons. Try to imagine their cover art. "Boring Llama Madness" "Unremarkable Viking Carnage" "Educational Indian Hunter" Some kinky ones: "Charlie Brown's Nudist Brothers" "Mary Kate and Ashley's Manlove Warfare" And I think I might actually be playing this right now without even knowing it... "Professional Computer Simulator" 0 Share this post Link to post
Chopkinsca Posted April 10, 2010 We should make fake game box art for some of these game names. This was done a few years ago here. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted April 10, 2010 I remember a long time ago someone from here made a game name generator, then we had a Photoshop 'contest' to make box art from it. I still have some of the ones I made up on my website... http://youfailit.net/danarchy/Volley.jpg http://youfailit.net/danarchy/Commies.jpg http://youfailit.net/danarchy/Bee.jpg 0 Share this post Link to post
The Green Herring Posted April 10, 2010 Here are ten that I got. I went a step further by imagining what these games might be like. Underwater Dinosaur Rider - Racing game with scuba divers riding raptors at the bottom of the ocean. Sombreros and ponchos optional. The Care Bears' Vigilante Rangers - Spread love and friendship throughout the land... by force. Ye Olde Army Invaders - Alternate title: Space Invaders 1000 A.D. The Castle of Landmine Choreographer - Shoot your way through a vast dungeon to take on whoever puts all those mines in the ground in Minesweeper. Tiny Hang Glider 3000 - A hang glider simulator. With lasers. Shameful Pokemon Trivia - A quiz game for nerds that other nerds make fun of. World of Spelling Creator - Revise the dictionaries of the world... one book at a time. Grimy Lightning vs. Capcom - Can Mega Man take on the forces of nature? (Hint: Yes.) Michael Jackson's Kangaroo from Outer Space - ...If only he were alive today... Cybernetic Prison X - Shovelware 90s PC game where you're a cyborg shooting his way out of prison, aided by comically bad voice samples. I agree that there should really be a Photoshop contest. The entries ought to be hilarious! 0 Share this post Link to post

Ultraboy94 Posted April 10, 2010 first one i got when i clicked the generate button was "John Romero's Drug Dealing Boy"... 0 Share this post Link to post
phi108 Posted April 10, 2010 Ultraboy94 said:"John Romero's Drug Dealing Boy"... Romero's drug warning to gamers must have been faked. Here is a recording of an old "automated mouth" that emulated John Carmack, to get him to say what you wanted. This one is an anti-drug PSA, though maybe not effective. http://www.oldmanmurray.com/images/features/cam_message1.mp3 (The Carmack Automated Mouth was developed by the great guys of Oldmanmurray) On topic, these game titles are hilarious. And those old boxart images are EVEN BETTER! 0 Share this post Link to post

40oz Posted April 10, 2010 What the hell? I can't imagine any games being named accordingly. Don't all games these days have short one to two-word dark/ominous titles? I've never played these games or even know much about them but shouldn't they all sound like: Dead Space Uncharted Bio-shock Fallout Farcry Assassin's Creed etc. 0 Share this post Link to post
phi108 Posted April 10, 2010 It seems like these generated names give a bit more insight into the game's premise than usual modern game titles. But many of them are open to interpretation, of course. 0 Share this post Link to post

Creaphis Posted April 11, 2010 40oz said:meef shmada shma That's a good point, but not all computer games have short and snappy names, especially not over all of video gaming history. What this name generator is doing is parodying the naming conventions of the vast numbers of crappy shovelware games that have been made for the first home consoles, that have been made as "bargain" titles, that have been made for educational purposes, for masturbatory material, etc. It's not too surprising that you can't think of games with names like this, as most are quickly and rightfully forgotten. You should be able to think of a few, though, because these ugly naming tropes haven't died away, and oddly enough, are still commonly accepted. For instance, most gamers seem able to hear a title as cumbrous as "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" without flinching. 0 Share this post Link to post
