This is a couple of shots of the Doom Shareware maps we know and love that some-one has remade in Quake3. I think it looks quite cool.

I don't know... direct remakes seem to defeat the purpose of using a new engine. You should keep the basic layout but change everything else.

Reminds me of the Quake 2 mapset that was all the KDITD maps. It was interesting, but they didn't add any detail which REALLY made the simplicity of the old maps stand out more (in a bad way).

Call me wrong, but doesn't vanilla Doom (or Wolf3d?) also have a non-orthogonal FOV?
