Warning: hackers might use your blender against you!

Recommended Posts

Barely any of the news casters that report on hacking have any idea what they're talking about. Take the one lady who's always babbling on about it on Good Morning America for example.

There's not much in there that isn't believable. The headline and opening bit just exaggerates the danger. Sure, you could hack a wi-fi-based automation system and start a blender, but the chances of seeing it happen are basically zero. They also don't make distinctions between the various sorts of computers installed in cars. The important ones are only hackable if you have access to the hardware.

What bothers me is they write these things with intent to scare people. It makes life harder for everybody else.

People who watch Fox News are the same gullibles who believed some Jew 2,000 years ago can turn water into wine, come on now.

Isn't it only blenders that are hooked up to "home autmoation" systems that are susceptible? In that case, you deserve to be haxed

Haha, fear mongering.

9. The Human Body
10. Even the Human Brain

Only if you're dumb enough to get fucking computer parts implanted into you.

Reminds me of a news story about electricity leakage that must have lost something when translated into layman's terms - some newspapers apparently stated that unused wall sockets should be switched off to minimise leakage.

ROFL Tabloids are awesome. Dealing with the paranoid schizos who believe that crap isn't so awesome while it's happening, but it's good for a laugh.

My cousin was scared of fans because the blade might "pop off" and slice her face or something. Apparently the fact that it was in metal shielding wasn't enough assurance.

Sounds like something out of one of those stupid Final Destination movies. Dude gets hot, turns on fan. Freak set of coincidences results in him being found 3 days later all bloated with no face.

These home networks are then open to attack in surprising ways: A hacker might turn on the blender from outside your home while your pee-pee is in it.

oh crap

If you read the article, it's the new home automated blenders.

But even then, is someone really going to hack a blender with Wifi outside your house, then attempt to climb into your upstairs window while you take a second to turn it off?

I remember they once did this article on this horrible group of terrorists known as anonymous who were known to be hackers on steroids, which was really scary because it showed them terrorizing people in various ways by replacing this one dude's myspace and replacing all his pictures with gay porn which made his girlfriend think he was gay, and they did it for no reason! Imagine all the horrible things these hackers on steroids could do if they hack in to my brain. They could turn ME into gay pornography!

Ghostly I thought that even you would be able to laugh at the ridiculousness of this article and not rush and defend it because its published by Fox News. I honestly didn't think you were that much of a shill. Still, I'm impressed by your consistency, if not your intellectual honesty.

Laugh if you want, but the threat is real, and it can ruin lives. A friend of mine was victimized via blender (i.e. blendraped). One day not too long ago, he set his blender to purée, but those hacker bastards altered it to whip! Imagine his horror when the fruit he was blending ended up having a slightly different consistency. Since then, he's been unable to perform sexually and his marriage has fallen apart.
