Doom in VirtualBox (FreeDOS 1.0)

I've installed Doom to a FreeDOS 1.0 virtual PC just fine, but when I load it up the gameplay is really choppy. I tried increasing the RAM and video memory with no luck as well. Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Same thing happens with DOS 6.22 .

VirtualBox was not designed to run games, so performance may not be smooth enough to be playable.

Use DOSBox.

Heh was just playing around with FreeDOS and wanted to see if I could get Doom working in it without a physical install, but I guess I'll go back to DOSBox as SuperJamie said. Thanks anyways. :)
