Grazza Posted March 11, 2011 Frankdude: So why on earth did you make this thread? Just to express a random thought along the lines of "I used to dislike Marmite, but now I quite like it". What's the point? Why should anyone care? Don't make a thread if you don't want people to discuss whatever it is you have posted about. Or post it in Blogs. 0 Share this post Link to post
Frankdude Posted March 11, 2011 I just feel we can discuss this like men and not argue 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted March 11, 2011 Steam just happens to be a polarizing "Red Flag" subject on these forums, so you can expect decorum to fly out the window once people get on their hobby-horses and the trolls move in. As for myself, it's only in the last year and a bit that my Internet connections sped up to the point where Steam would be a viable option, not they've much to interest me - my taste in games lean more towards what's on offer at Good Old Games and I prefer my software DRM-free. 0 Share this post Link to post
Maes Posted March 11, 2011 Frankdude said:I think this thread is tearing the regulars apart. Yeah, we're a prissy and easily offendable bunch here at DW. Seriously though, check out how you worded your first post. It's hardly neutral, full of polarizing words and it directly slots people into either the "embracing convert" or "misguided hater" category, practically leaving no middle ground for discourse. Even the thread title gives a religious/zealotic overtone to the whole subject, implying that "dissidents" or "nonbelievers" will simply get "the treatment" if they dare show their ugly mugs around here. Perhaps YOU weren't directly involved in any of the trolling, but you sure gave the green light and the breeding ground for others to do it for you, through gratuitous trolling, ad hominems and emotionally-laden buzzwords There WERE proper ways to start a similar thread without polarizing stuff right from the start, but this ain't it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted March 11, 2011 Hmmm, I neither like Steam nor Marmite. I think I must be a natural born hater. ;) 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted March 11, 2011 You have to spread it very thin, you know? Talking of Marmite, one guy who spent a year in Greenland told me that he used the stuff to get his revenge on some locals who made him eat some pieces of rotting seal carcass. "Now you must try my local speciality", he said, unveiling his jar of Marmite. 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted March 11, 2011 I prefer Vegemite. Fun fact - Vegemite was for a while marketed under the name "Pawill". 0 Share this post Link to post
Maes Posted March 12, 2011 (puts Marmite in the list of tasty stuff to try) 0 Share this post Link to post
bytor Posted March 12, 2011 LOL Awww, what happened, Frankdude? Is that a rotting seal carcass in yer thread!? he just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich ummm..."Steam"...looks to me like you buy something but it still isn't yours. You can only participate when and how you are allowed to. Not interested. 0 Share this post Link to post
ReFracture Posted March 12, 2011 Steam is good for it's deals and people who hate dealing with large amounts of physical media. If you are fortunate enough to have a stable fast internet connection, there really isn't much wrong with steam. It was a complete piece of shit that needed to die when it was new (very crash prone and many other problems) but those issues are non existent today. The running gag for years was that valve might some day get the friends service running.. eventually they did, and it's always working 99% of the time these days. 0 Share this post Link to post
Snakes Posted March 12, 2011 Frankdude said:So much hatred all over a thread reversal. I once said steam was spyware and I still dont trust it. But it is the way of the times and you can turn steam off which you should do if your going to torrent, porn, etc. I think this thread is tearing the regulars apart. In my honest opinion we had are hatred its over. Mod lock this thread. Do you think the forum regulars can actually have real lives now, too? 0 Share this post Link to post
Belial Posted March 13, 2011 Never used Steam, never will. It has nothing to offer me. 0 Share this post Link to post
