Xeros612 Posted March 24, 2011 And it doesn't look like a knock-off of Chrome at all! I hope it's at least more stable with its flash plugin, though all the broken plugins right now are a bit annoying. It does seem to be a bit more smoothly operating, for now at least. 0 Share this post Link to post
chungy Posted March 24, 2011 The new look is optional :P I updated to it a couple days ago when it became final (I still have the RC on Windows... that'll be updated to the final too when I boot that again). I love it, works great, everything is super fast, no big complaints. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mithran Denizen Posted March 24, 2011 I've grown weary with how bloated Firefox is getting in the recent versions, so I've switched over to a combination of K-Meleon and Lynx for WinXP. My Slackware box can handle the bloat of Firefox a tad better, but I have to echo Technician's remark here anyway. 0 Share this post Link to post
John Smith Posted March 24, 2011 Meh. Not as good as it could be, and not necessarily the best option. Can't get excited. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xeros612 Posted March 24, 2011 I'm now curious as to why they decided that the back button's drop down list of recent history needed to be activated by holding down the mouse button on the back button instead of clicking an arrow indicator like before. 0 Share this post Link to post
chungy Posted March 24, 2011 You can also right-click... I didn't actually notice that exclusion because I've always right clicked :P 0 Share this post Link to post
Graf Zahl Posted March 24, 2011 Sigh... that new look, it's just the same shit that ruined IE for me. Why this insane need to remove something as essential as the menu and hide its contents in places where they don't belong? 0 Share this post Link to post
EarthQuake Posted March 24, 2011 Did you miss the memo that said you don't have to use the new look? 0 Share this post Link to post
Planky Posted March 24, 2011 This version of FF seems slow compared to previous versions. The UI is an improvement IMHO. Im sticking with Chrome though. Light and nimble, like FF used to be. I really like the UI and it gives me the largest browsing area. Still, nothing beats FF and Firebug. 0 Share this post Link to post
AkiraZXE Posted March 24, 2011 I dunno if this falls under the "new look" thing, but my only real gripe is how they swapped the "Open Link in New Window" and "Open Link in New Tab" positions in the right-click menu. Otherwise, seems to run better on my laptop now than it did before. Starts up faster too. Gets my worthless seal of approval. =P 0 Share this post Link to post

grubber Posted March 24, 2011 Wow. The amount of stuff copied from Chrome is amazing. Also, Mozilla says it's 6x faster than FF 3.6. I wonder if that means it's 2x slower, but measured on machine 12x faster (i.e. what I believe they did with previous releases) or if it's actually really faster. Anyway, I'm sticking with Chrome (Chromium actually). 0 Share this post Link to post

Mr. T Posted March 24, 2011 FF is still king when it comes to extensions. FF4 has come a long way from the beta, I'm impressed. 0 Share this post Link to post

Memfis Posted March 24, 2011 They SWAPPED "new tab" and "new window"! Now I keep clicking the wrong button. This is catastrophe. I don't want to use middle-click or ctrl+left-click... 0 Share this post Link to post

It probably feels more "down home" to the hipster population who are used to everything being the sleek applefag appearance on their $500 phones. At least it allows you to turn the menu back on unlike Chrome. 0 Share this post Link to post
J-selva Posted March 24, 2011 I stray away from Firefox. Whenever I'm on youtube or there's a high amount of flash content (and sometimes loading images), the entire computer freezes. The only way to do anything is manually turn off or reboot the computer. I've already looked up this issue countless times. Only some topics on support forums seem at least a little bit irrelevant. And none of them actually have an adequate solution. I've had the problem since one of the 2.x versions of firefox and none of the updates fixed the problem. Of course, it definitely has to do with compatibility issues (hardware related?), but I can't get into the problem if I don't know what it is. So, meh. 0 Share this post Link to post
Remilia Scarlet Posted March 24, 2011 I've been using it since one of the later betas and have been quite impressed with the speedup, at least under (Slackware) Linux. It also doesn't cause my music software to stutter under Windows, unlike Chrome (which doesn't make sense, but switching to FF is how I fixed it at the time). So it's pretty much replaced Chrome for me. Plus, there are some extensions that I prefer under FF. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bank Posted March 24, 2011 I've never seen people bitch so much about free software. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted March 24, 2011 I'd like Firefox a lot more if it didn't lag Youtube and crash constantly. 0 Share this post Link to post

gggmork Posted March 24, 2011 I was trying to wank to some porn and a big 'update for firefox is available' popup came on screen totally killing the moment. It should be illegal to interfere with the wanking of end users like that. Also, google is my homepage, and half the time I click on the address bar and intend to type: doomworld.com/vb Then I look up at the screen and see that: doomw is written in the address bar, then, halfway through typing, google, or maybe firefox, automoved the cursor to their search bar where: orld.com/vb is written, and instant search is trying to suggest matches for that. So then I retype the whole thing in the google search area and wait for 5 seconds before realizing that instant decided to turn itself off and now I have to click enter. See, they made instant bad on purpose because they want you to log in to turn it off. Why do they want you to log in? Why is chrome always included as a bonus download with firefox unless you do a custom installation? Where did this 'Eric Schmidt' infiltrator come from and why is he trolling us by having a name deliberately rhyming with 'shit', giving the evil eye in his wikipedia picture, and having 'Schmidt's Sausage' the first google result for his last name? Why is he an advisor to Obama and always talk about politics like terrorism and new world order? I don't know but firefox probably plays a role in this vast conspiracy. Nevertheless, I use it and think its a pretty nice browser. 0 Share this post Link to post
chungy Posted March 24, 2011 I think you're complaining about something but I'm not quite sure what. Also protip: Either set your home page to blank or to doomworld.com/vb 0 Share this post Link to post

Because if you have a menu, you won't look like all the other cool kiddies at school. Yes, I agree entirely, this drive towards removing menus on all kinds of applications is a horrible negative direction in usability (optional or not - it is increasingly the default, which usually means next version the choice goes). 0 Share this post Link to post
CODOR Posted March 24, 2011 JavaScript-heavy sites now only take 20 seconds to load on my particularly slow work PC; I used to have a minute or two of time to grab a cup of coffee while waiting, but not anymore. I also wasted nearly two minutes of my time unselecting "Tabs on Top" and installing Status-4-Evar. Thanks a lot Mozilla, you ruined my life. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted March 24, 2011 CODOR said:installing Status-4-Evar What? *google* What. Dear Mozilla developers, I want to tell you about a nifty feature you may have forgotten still exists in Mozilla Firefox 3.6. This is the F11 key. Launch an instance of the previous version of your browser, and press this mysterious key. On most keyboards, you will find it at the top, generally above the backspace key and surrounded by its friends F10 and F12. Go on, do this. Watch what happens. I figure that if you knew this existed, you might not have felt you had to sacrifice the status bar. 0 Share this post Link to post
Csonicgo Posted March 24, 2011 After I got FF4 looking like 3.6 and installing all the addons to add what should have been there in the first place... It feels like the same damn thing. Meh level is at Maximum. Back to Chrome since FF4 still stalls and hangs on facebook for no reason whatsoever. 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted March 24, 2011 Yeah, a bit underwhelmed here too. A few changes for the sake of change, a few add-ons broken and no significant improvements that I notice on my machine. [edit] Actually, I'm beginning to think that it is a bit quicker so when the various problems get ironed out and my broken add-ons get fixed, I guess it will be better overall. I still don't like the whole "lets pretend the interface is cleaner by hiding things that you'll want to use by default and which you will probably enable anyway" policy but, well, I've already enabled all that stuff so Meh!
