Minecraft makes a Doom 2 reference?

I first saw this not too long ago, and I was like what is this referencing? I thought a little and I laughed my head off. It was referencing Doom 2's little weirdness of how on the automap for MAP11 it says 'O' of Destruction, and on Intermission screens it is referred to as Circle of Death. This really caught me by surprise, perhaps one of the creators of Minecraft likes Doom 2 or something?

That's a pretty obscure reference for someone who is just a casual fan.

There is also a message stating "idspispopd".

And Phobos Anomaly.

I don't know how much a Doom fan Notch is, but I do recall reading a interview with him that he was fascinated by Carmack's Doom engine.

Notch, a.k.a. Markus Alexej Persson, was the creator of the STARK Doom-like engine, one of the early serious attempts at making a Java port of Doom.

He even was a Doomworld member: first mention of the STARK engine.

Are you talking about me, or Notch? Because if you are talking about me, I don't think "casual" is the right word for me. Just saying, most people here are the hardcore Doom fans.

Minecraft has exactly 1 (one) creator. So I guess he does like Doom.

Minecraft has one guy that originated the game, but it's developed by all of Mojang now, it does have multiple creators. Still, the Doom references are purely from Notch.

Minecraft menu texts have a lot of references:

Phobos Anomaly! -> Doom E1M8, of course :)
idspispopd! -> Doom noclip code
MAP11 has two names! -> Doom2 MAP11 easter egg: 'O' of Destruction and Circle of Death :)

I don't know anything else, but it's possible :)
