brinks Posted May 27, 2011 I love it. I take it straight black like a real manly man. The stronger, the better. It really doesn't have much of an impact on me at all though. Used to work at a Barnes & Noble with a Starbucks in it, so I'd be able to get my fix for dirt cheap. All my co-workers thought I was a complete nutcase for being able to down that stuff straight up. They're pretty much right on that one. 0 Share this post Link to post

The practice caught up with me when I moved back to the states and gained 30 lbs in a month. 0 Share this post Link to post
exp(x) Posted May 27, 2011 Another thing, I cannot stand iced coffee or coffee with sugar in it. I used to think I hated coffee until I tried it black. I had also acquired a love of extremely bitter beer that may have helped. 0 Share this post Link to post
Captain Toenail Posted May 27, 2011 I cannot stand tea or coffee, and it makes me feel childish because drinking these is kind of expected for adults. :/ Despite this apparently I make excellent cups of tea for others, heh. My weakness is Coca Cola and Sprite. If there's a six-pack of these in the fridge it's quite possible I'll drink them all in a day one after the other. 0 Share this post Link to post

Chopkinsca Posted May 27, 2011 DoomUK said:Perhaps it's an acquired taste. Try a mild or medium-strength coffee with lots of sugar and cream. Just don't corrupt your senses by using instant coffee (Nescafe et al) as your foray into the adult world of coffee drinking. That stuff makes me want to puke. Yep, for me it was an acquired taste. I used to hate the taste of coffee; it reminded me of burnt popcorn. At one point I realized I liked it with 3 - 4 spoons of sugar. Slowly I used less sugar and now I can drink it black with no problems. I also agree on instant coffee... that stuff is horrible. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted May 27, 2011 I go to Dunkin Donuts twice each and every day. My order is burned straight into my head: Medium-hot Coconut regular with extra cream, three sugars. 0 Share this post Link to post

(except diet stuff, which is mostly sucralose or aspartame) Or maybe they simply didn't use megatons of sugar? 0 Share this post Link to post

Sharessa Posted May 27, 2011 I started drinking coffee when I was 10 or so. Back then I just had it black, but quickly acquired a taste for it with a ton of cream and sugar. Then in Jr. High I started hanging out at Barnes & Noble and discovered espresso. I pretty much just drank mochas (with cinnamon), though, because they are awesome. Anyway, in high school I was drinking ridiculous amounts of caffeine (1-2 cups of coffee every morning, nearly a liter of caffeinated cream soda, and usually a few other sodas or mochas every day) and one day went cold turkey. I had to skip school for 3 days because I was bedridden with intense headaches and fatigue. Ever since then, I've mostly avoided caffeine. These days I'm a barista, so I know all kinds of drinks. It's actually really fun. I experiment around with all sorts of drinks since I get a huge discount, though I mostly stick with variants of mochas (always decaf), or Frappuchinos. My real love these days is tea, however. I have an EXTENSIVE collection of herbal teas at home (plus a bunch of chai and Earl Grey), and from work I've learned the deliciousness of London fogs (Earl Grey with steamed milk and vanilla), and have discovered that shaken black iced tea with soy milk and vanilla tastes JUST like Thai iced tea. Also, yesterday I bought a 24-oz. stainless steel traveler mug for $10. I have a fucking weaponized mug, and on the cheap. :P EDIT: hex11 said:What, it was sweetened with stevia extract instead of HFCS like almost everything in USA? It might even be illegal there like it is in Mexico and, you know, the rest of the fucking world. 0 Share this post Link to post

Enjay Posted May 27, 2011 I like coffee but coffee doesn't like me. It's not unusual for it to make me feel quite ill and give me nasty stomach cramps. So, I only drink it very occasionally. 0 Share this post Link to post

I'm not sure if they use real sugar there instead of HFCS or not. Mr. T might be able to weigh in on that, though... 0 Share this post Link to post

Hellbent Posted May 27, 2011 I just got back from a marathon 20 hour drive to VA Beach and back. The only time I drink coffee is on road trips, because I don't like to pull over for naps. I buy the bottled Starbucks variety because it doesn't make me feel all over-caffeinitated like normal coffee does, yet keeps me from sleeping at the wheel. Plus it tastes reeeaaaaaallly good. I would drink regular coffee regularly if coffee wasn't addictive. 0 Share this post Link to post

The Lag Posted May 27, 2011 i still drink 2 cups when i wake up most days, although it doesn't really do anything for me anymore. 0 Share this post Link to post
hobomaster22 Posted May 27, 2011 I have been drinking coffee since I was maybe 14. Currently I have at least two or three cups a day. I have a coffee grinder and I buy whole beans in a giant bag at BJ's. I don't make much coffee at home any more because my current employer has a giant super fancy coffee maker. Press a button, put cup below it, and coffee comes out. Mmmm free coffee. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted May 27, 2011 I drink a fair amount of coffee. A few mugs each day, at irregular times and intervals, and very variable amounts. Some days I won't have any. I don't notice any strong stimulant effect on me - I can sleep after drinking coffee just as easily (or not) as I can at other times. I normally have filtered coffee, made from beans. I use this (or rather an earlier model of that, with similar functionality - it's nice that it keeps the coffee warm by preventing heat loss rather than by continually heating it, which leads to a stewed taste within an hour or so). I take coffee with a little zero-fat milk (enough to turn it dark brown) and nothing else (no sugar or sweetener). I get most of my beans from Trader Joe, Target or Whole Foods. I tend to like lighter roasts, and the more aromatic beans such as Peaberry. Kona's nice but too expensive for what it is (if you visit Hawaii, be sure to get some as it is more reasonably priced when bought locally). Trader Joe has recently been selling Kenya Peaberry, which was my favourite coffee when I was a student but haven't found since. I'm pretty happy with the choice of coffees I now have - in England I didn't live very near a coffee specialist, and had to make do with the smaller range of ground coffee that was available at stores like Sainsbury's. At university, I got coffee from a store on Pembroke Street, which had a fantastic range, and was pretty on much on the way to lectures. That was probably where my taste for real coffee developed (in the UK, people tend to drink instant coffee - ugh!). The fact that I'd normally have a pot of Mocha Mysore or Kenya AA on the go seemed to be the main reason people would drop by my room. I find it odd how coffee, as sold in cafes, varies so much from country to country. In the US, you get a massive damn cup even if you ask for the smallest size. In France you tend to get a smaller cup of very ordinary coffee that costs about $4. If you want a dribble of milk in it, they double the price. In Italy, you have to fight to get anything larger than a thimble of ultra-strong coffee - even when it is a coffee stand at the bottom of a world cup ski run, where you'd expect people might need some liquids. (To get something like a normal-size coffee with milk: ask for an Americano; once they have poured it out, then ask for some milk to be put in it - mention milk any earlier and they give you a coffee milkshake.) In Greece and Turkey they grind the stuff into a (close to) mono-molecular powder and force water into it under pressure. The result, as far as I can tell, is like diluted mud. But the worst coffee I have ever had was in Estonia, while it was part of the USSR. I had 70 roubles that I needed to use, as I couldn't take it out of the country. The coffee cost a few kopecs, so I could have practically unlimited amounts. However, it tasted as if they had made normal filtered coffee (at some point in the distant past). And then taken the leftover coffee grounds, and ground them up finer, and pressed most of the flavour out of them. And what was left after that was mixed with warm water and served to the customers. I'm sure they serve great coffee nowadays though. 0 Share this post Link to post

Megalyth Posted May 28, 2011 We have a Seattle's Best Coffee in the Barnes & Noble at the local mall here. I've drained several cups within an hour or so while browsing books there, and the store has its own entrance/exit, so I can go outside and smoke as well. Books, caffeine, and nicotine, an excellent combination. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom_Dude Posted May 28, 2011 I drink between 2 and 3 cups of coffee a day. I like some sugar in it with a shot of light cream (10%). Most days I'll have one in the morning with my breakfast and then another in the evening around 8pm. I like Nescafe's Rich Instant Coffee and is what I drink most of the time. On the weekends I'll brew a pot in the morning and on Sunday I like a flavored coffee... hazelnut or butterscotch or irish cream, so then I'll usually have an xtra cup in the morning. Goes good with the bacon and eggs n sausage. Sometimes in the middle of the day I'll grab a cup but I don't so that too often.. It's time to put some coffee on now actually. 0 Share this post Link to post

The thought of drinking anything but coffee for the first four hours of the day seems... wrong. Like eating ice cream for breakfast. I was actually on the base at Virginia Beach just this past December for work. I remember they made this god awful coffee (it was actually more like sludge). The empty carafes had this thick layer of crust left over from being burnt... And they had the fake powder creamer. Nightmare worthy for someone who loves coffee like me. I couldn't drink it. Also, I can't imagine driving 20 hours, I flew from Providence and get pretty antsy on the plane. Where are you from that it takes 20 hours, if you don't mind me asking? 0 Share this post Link to post
lazygecko Posted May 28, 2011 One large cup each day. No sugar, a bit of milk. Typically during the afternoon. The caffeine itself doesn't do that much for me (apart from my bowels!), so no point drinking it in the morning and I never have any appetite when I wake up anyway. 0 Share this post Link to post
