General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 10, 2011 I just saw the latest review for 5 min speedmap collection. There's a suggestion for 10 minute ones next. Anyone in? 0 Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted July 10, 2011 i've got some fun doing the 5 minutes one, so if this project going, sign me in. 0 Share this post Link to post
Archi Posted July 10, 2011 Recently tried to make speedmaps in 2, 10, 20, 30 minutes. http://archi.my1.ru/Doom2/a_spds.zip They are not playable and was created just for fun. 0 Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 10, 2011 You guys don't need to sign up for this, just post a map if you're interested. 0 Share this post Link to post
hardcore_gamer Posted July 11, 2011 I am a bit confused. What are ten min speedmaps? Maps that take ten min to make? Maps that take ten min to finish? 0 Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted July 11, 2011 hardcore_gamer said:I am a bit confused. What are ten min speedmaps? Maps that take ten min to make? Maps that take ten min to finish? Conceptually, the second one. But let just said this to doomhero85, since he's hte one posted this idea... 0 Share this post Link to post
Mithran Denizen Posted July 11, 2011 The idea is to create a map in ten minutes, not to create a map that takes ten minutes to play through. 0 Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 11, 2011 Mithran Denizen's got it right. You have ten (10) minutes to make a map, after 10 minutes stop mapping. I will allow playtesting/bugfixing after the initial 10 minutes, but no more adding areas. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sergeant_Mark_IV Posted July 11, 2011 Can I draw the sectors/texture it in 10 minutes, and place the actors after it? 0 Share this post Link to post
Olympus Posted July 11, 2011 http://www.mediafire.com/?8fnd81hft42431w Heres my try. Should be a small challenge to the regular doomer, but should be no match for a pro. 0 Share this post Link to post
Phml Posted July 11, 2011 Sure, that's acceptable. It's your call, but I find that odd. I'm rather slow at drawing sectors compared to many, and despite that, that's easily the thing done fastest. For me, not including playtesting/fixing would slash the build time of all my maps by 75-80%, and not including thing placement either... We're left with maybe 1/10 of the actual build time. 0 Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 11, 2011 Hmm. Well give it a shot and see if you can do one in 10 not counting monster placement and stuff. I understand it's a challenge, that's the point of the exercise. 0 Share this post Link to post
Phml Posted July 11, 2011 Maybe I didn't make sense, I meant the opposite, to say that it wouldn't be so much of a challenge. Let's say I spend 100 minutes making a map. Maybe 10 minutes will be sector drawing and texturing, 15 minutes thing placement, and 75 minutes playtesting and tweaking until it feels right. If I just count the first part, I could say I made a 10 minute speedmap even though I actually spent 100 minutes on it. On the other hand, if I had to fit everything in ten minutes, I would have to map ten times faster (or more likely make something ten times smaller). Your mileage may vary and all that, it's just that I think it's kind of misleading - indeed, if I knew and applied that sort of ruling to my previous speedmaps, most of them would have actually fit within the required time limit. ;) 0 Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 11, 2011 Ah I get you now. Technically, I think 10 minutes for making the map layout/line functions. Then take as long as you need populating it. Since this is not a normal speedmapping session, I feel that is fair. Both this and the 5 minute one are experiments, let's just see what happens. 0 Share this post Link to post

Philnemba Posted July 12, 2011 Heres something I made in 10 minutes. http://www.mediafire.com/?21lu3k6e07s5kwc I was in the mood for cement and crate textures :P 0 Share this post Link to post
Sergeant_Mark_IV Posted July 13, 2011 Here is my attempt: Deadwood.wad When you try to get hidden weapons in the woods, and get stuck, turning into a siting duck to hitscanners, you will know why this place is called Deadwood. http://www.4shared.com/file/gIrlPLlq/Deadwood.html If pics are necessary: 0 Share this post Link to post
Megalyth Posted July 13, 2011 I haven't been able to finish a map in the past ten years, I doubt I could do one in ten minutes. Not a good one, amyway. It would probably end up being a box-room slaughterfest. 0 Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted July 13, 2011 10 minutes for real (plus 5 minutes for thing adjustement): http://www.mediafire.com/?s9i3cn7iei2j5pa chocodoom compatible, i think this will works also for vanilla doom. MAP28 cause i like it. 0 Share this post Link to post
baitercell Posted July 19, 2011 This is the first map I have published. My previous mapping history consists of the doom builder 2 tutorials, and just clicking around to see what things do. I found the 10 minute limit allowed me to focus and actually make a map. I did about 1 minute of planning, 10 minutes of adding the sectors, then another 5 mins of monster placing and getting the doors to work. http://www.mediafire.com/?dn8p5bac0fz2nnd Enjoy 0 Share this post Link to post
