Double-click mouse button to open door

Recommended Posts

This is a follow-up to "who also plays with keyboard only".

In vanilla Doom, you cannot configure a mouse button for "use", you can only configure a mouse button to move forward and then double-click that button for the "use" action.

However, nearly all source ports I've played with allow a mouse button to trigger the "use" action with a single click.

Recently I was surprised to discover that this is not configurable in prBoom (2.5.0), at least not through the menu, nor by setting mouseb_use=2 & mouseb_forward=-1. I find this so irritating that I am unable to this port.

Does anyone (given the choice) use the default setting? What is its advantage?

mouse_doubleclick_as_use 0

this is a must have option. i've got strafe on for my sr50 combo on mouse2, so i hold or tap it a lot. it's so easy to close a door immediatelly after opening it, or even better while shooting rockets, heh.

I use the default setting. Advantage? Hmm... I've never thought about it, really. All shooters I ever played that I can remember have either the spacebar, E or F for "use". Never the right mouse button, which tends to be secondary attack, melee attack or iron sight.

That works in Chocolate Doom but not prBoom.

They needed to make it double-click so as to implement the useless "move forward" single click feature, along with shoot and strafe.

I think Eternity also uses the double-click system.
