ZDoom: Actors-per-game

Recommended Posts

Simple question,
Is there any possible way to make decorate actors appear in Doom II and not in Doom or vice-versa?

Thanks.

Not really. As far as ZDoom is concerned, Doom and Doom II are the same game, using the same rules. The only way in which you can restrict stuff if by having them use sprites only present in the doom2 IWAD, which for new actors with their own sprites is obviously not possible.

Why do you want to do such a thing anyway?

SuperShotgun modifications.
Even when using inheritance, While playing Doom, the weapon can still appear in the player's inventory (if a cheat is used)
It doesn't do this when using the zdoom.pk3 native class. Must be because that information is hard-coded.

Too bad then. I was just wondering.

a thirty-second glance at the zdoom wiki indicates that adding "Game Doom" to an actor definition in decorate will cause that actor to only appear in its specified game.

Nope. It doesn't do that with the native class because the sprites are missing. Load Doom2.wad as a PWAD (so that the game is still Ultimate Doom), give yourself all weapons, and notice the appearance of the super shotgun...

(In fact, by loading PWADs with the corresponding sprites and sounds, you can even give yourself the Heretic, Hexen and Strife weapons in Doom with a cheat. The only issue is that you won't be able to select them easily unless you tweak the weapon slots.)

Yeah, but that's as opposed to Game Strife, Game Heretic, Game Hexen or Game Chex. Not as opposed to Game Doom2. Which is why I said in my first reply that Doom and Doom II were considered the same game by the engine.
