What are you looking for? Do you have any particular type of play or style of map you're looking for? If you're just looking for wads (and don't care about specifics, style, etc.) that have been highly regarding, following @Catpho and @Soundblock's advice wouldn't hurt. If you're more discerning in that regard, you need to say so.

Welp, I'm a slaughter nerd. If you're interested in dipping your toes into that genre, then I recommend Newgothic Movement 1 and 2 (but mostly 1), and Rush. If you're looking for something a bit harder in slaughter, then I really like SlaughterMAX and No Chance.

 

Otherwise, my favorite non-slaughter WADs are Scythe 2, Resurgence, and Speed of Doom (not necessarily in that order).

Ancient Aliens, pretty much the whole project but especially MAP24:Culture Shock in it and many maps from the first episode of it. And yeah, it's impossible to point out the very best map during a period of over 22 years of dooming, there are so many but this is the most recent one that I played and really jaw-dropping stuff. :)
