"You'll fight across dimensions" Crucible theory.

Obviously, this could refer to the fact that Hell is a different dimension but it is also heavily implied that the Doom 2016 universe takes place in ALL Doom universes meaning the original, TNT and Plutonia, Doom 64 AND Doom 3 are all part of the same universe or they all melted into one. Maybe that Soul Cube was more than just an easter egg and the Icon of Sin will definitely make a reappearance.

 

...Or they all melted into one. Wait a second that's what a Crucible does. Maybe the Crucible is some sort of key for all dimensions.

 

"A crucible is a melting pot used for extremely hot chemical reactions — the crucible needs to be melt-proof. Literally, a crucible is a vessel used for very hot processes, like fusing metals."

That unused text from Doom 2016 did state, "the Crucible will crush the divide, and punish man-born and demon kin alike." It's consistent at least. Even though they removed that text from the game (maybe not even intentionally, as it seems some other things stayed *in* the game that Hugo thought were removed - really think development got super hectic at the end...) you have to imagine they still have it in mind as an idea.

If my theory is true, then it would be cool if the game sometimes flashed for a split second between the normal environment and an alternate dimension that demakes that room with classic Doom architecture and textures.

Well... if they gave zero thought to story in the first game until the product was nearly done, they probably gave it just as much thought for this game.

That could open the door to a ton of various possibilities, made further plausible by the DLC maps for D2016, such as a literal flesh and bone wasteland, various UAC starships, a ruined Argent D’Nur temple, and various UAC bases in various locations (ranging from an ice base to a volcanic drilling site). 

 

That being said, I would give my left hand for Revenants, Arch-Viles, and Chaingunners in a jungle setting filled with abstract temples…

I think it just means that we will be fighting between Earth and Hell constantly.  Maybe even some levels will jump between both at the same time.  Isn't there a MP map like that?

 

But it would be cool to venture to some new (and old) otherworldly places such as realm of Quake.  Not sure of the creatures of Shub-Niggurath would get along very well with the demons of hell.  It would be war that would likely end in stalemate.

There were some interesting SnapMaps which allowed you to travel between Doom(2016) and the Classic levels known as the distorted dimension. It's an interesting concept to imagine where the Doom Marine is forever damned to repeat the same glorifying victories over the demons over and over again.

That "you'll fight across dimensions" quote to me implies that the game will have more locations than just Earth and Hell, which would be an exciting prospect because having all these different locations that can have whatever the hell (no pun intended) they want could really bring new life and variety to the game's environments which the previous DOOM games lacked. Perhaps that's what the "Eternal" in the name stands for since it could allude to the amount of dimensions being practically infinite.

 

I don't know if it's going to be some sort of mega-crossover between all the DOOM continuities/timelines/universes, however.

Still hoping for a renewed, reinspired Phobos location from knee deep in the dead, I dont know man. There's just something iconic about going back to Phobos, and I would hope to see it somehow in this one. Even if was go to some "hanger" through a portal to find a key and return, it would still be a great throwback'

Infact it would be great to wake up on either Phobos or Deimos before even coming close to earth, visit a few throwback locations before leaving, seeing Mars in flames from the argent destruction outbreak, as a mission prelude before the campaign so to speak.

I'm personally hoping that there will be a Quake 1 tie-in, besides, the Ranger travelled across all sorts of slipgates to the point of no return, would make sense if he (or a Quake setting) appears in the new Doom game.

To the point if no return? Wasn't he able to travel back home after defeating Shub-Niggurath? 

 

Edit: I'm strictly against a crossover.  Both universes are strong enough to live on their own.

Doom Slayer is in Quake Champions yeah? There is your answer.

 

However I'm open to the idea of different dimensions, morso hell vs ours but there may be others likely already destroyed.

I always considered Q3A, Quake Live and QC story wise as non canonical universes. Just a "best of id Software" compilation.

Like an id all stars game.

 

I do see potential with this. In each dimension, Doom Guy's armour could change, explaining why he has the classic armour. But really, I don't like that at all. The plot should be as simple as possible. I don't even think there should be the whole all Doom games are canon in different dimensions thing.

well they could have extended easter eggs for the storyed Quakes which act as teaser/tie in.

like maybe a slipgate which let us explore the slipgate complex a-la retro doom levels in Doom 2016
