Dear Hoplite

Potential Shotgun Edits

Recommended Posts

I was playing Freedoom earlier, and it occurred to me

The shotgun looks kinda weird. I love the general look when you chamber the next shell, but it's idle appearance looks REALLY weird. Could it be possible for someone here to maybe add a holographic sight or something onto it to give it some detail?

Being the one who made the shotgun sprites, I will say that's how the physical model just so happens to look from a center camera position. I'd prefer that any edits to its shape are consistently applied to the other frames as well.

Well, all round get sprite

But I wasn't thinking a change in the gun's strength, more a sight for a firearm that almost lacks them. I know you can't ADS in FreeDoom, but still

A sight isn't terribly useful on a gun with wide spread and swings wildly onscreen.

A chainsaw isn't that useful in combat either, In real life.

I was talking about its in-game use. People have been complaining about the idle frame ever since I made it, and the most I ever hear is it's "weird looking". I have no qualms about going back and tweaking it, but I need more specific reasoning than this.

I think the shotgun looks fine. The idle animation looks weird because it's a weird looking tactical shotgun with a heat shield and all and that's okay. Ideally, what should a pump-action shotgun from the future even look like? A Mossberg 500? In my head, I figured they used pump-action shotguns on exotic moonbases in the future because shotguns are simple and thus, very cheap and expected to be used indoors anyways. Maybe there are futuristic gun control laws, too. What does an inexpensive, mass-produced shotgun look like in the future? The current model is perfectly fine, imo.
