Jumpscare

Question

Hello, I wanted to know how to make the monster touch the player and give a jumpscare

Since I have not seen anyone offer a real possible solution, here is an idea. Note I have not tested this or tried it before, I am guessing only with my knowledge of how these things work.

 

1) Add in some kind of distance check in your monster's chase state, such as https://zdoom.org/wiki/A_JumpIfTargetInsideMeleeRange

 

Tweak the MeleeRange property in your monster to your liking.

 

2) Make it jump to a custom state in which calls https://zdoom.org/wiki/ACS_NamedExecute

 

3) Make it execute a script which does things to the player, such as freezes them in place, do a HudMessage of an image or something, whatever you want.

 

This should be what you need. I can probably make an example WAD in a couple days.
