Does anyone other than me hope they put a "Horde" style co-op mode in this?

Recommended Posts

So I personally like game types like Horde in Gears of War, or Zombies in Call of Duty, and I think that something similar to those would be super cool in Doom Eternal. It's very fitting with the style of game Doom is, and it would be incredibly fun to go up against ever harder waves of enemies alone, or with friends. Maybe even add in light base/defense building aspects kind of like in Gears of War 4. Also probably do a boss every ten waves or whatever too. Personally, I love this idea! But what about you guys? What do you think?

Id missed a big opportunity by not adding a PvE/arcade mode for the multiplayer maps.  Most people have been asking for this since Doom 4.  I would be very surprised if we didn't have some form of it in DE.

I want one.

I thought they could have used the MP maps for just that. That way all that art would not have gone to waste.

What I want to know is how they will handle different characters' player models.

The Praetor Suit now is too unique and specialised to use the 'generic UAC armour' multiplayer player models both old and new Dooms have done. UAC armour with the Doomblade and a shoulder cannon would look silly.

I would assume id noticed the frequency of survival style maps in snap map. I think most people would love to see a hoard style game mode. Whether or not we'll see one is anyones guess though.

Horde mode gave the gears of war games all the repeatability in the world; modern games not following suit is beyond silly.

Just give us different color versions of the Praetor suit. Nothing too fancy.

I think a horde mode would be even more cool if the "Invasion" mechanics from the campaign were to be implemented in some manner.

Yeah that'd be awesome, maybe something similar to the old Skulltag Invasion mode?  A (bigger) recreation of "Dead Simple" that had lowering walls for each wave you destroyed would be fun to play.

So a invading player acts as the "leader" to the hordes of other demons?  Why not.  So much potential.

I'd be all over this mode as well as the single player mode if this is in DE.

I didn't even think about that.

Agreed!

Well it's good too see that I'm far from the only one who thinks that this is a great idea. Honestly I knew it was impossible I was the only one lol. Anyway, here's too hoping that something along these lines is implemented into Eternal. If it does happen I'd be more than happy to play with some of you folks!

An horde/survival/round based mode would fit Doom due to its nature and association with neat gameplay elements and variety of guns, enemies and all that.

Specially since we could salvage the assets in the not-so-well-recieved MP and we got the "arenas" in the singleplayer as an example.

Also, semi-related, but something i wonder if is out there are horde based mapsets for GZDoom that work with gameplay mods.

I played a mapset called Disrepair and it had a survival mode, so i used a few mods and it worked outside of some text bringing up broken scripts.

I always wondered if horde/round/wave survival maps compatible with gameplay mods are a thing.

I heard they are for Skulltag.

Like, imagine Reelism for example but instead of its own mechanics and elements (outside of the timer and rounds i guess), you use other mods and mix them up so you can play those maps with GMOTA or Demonsteele.

And i guess infinite spawning items (but with some specific time) could help to make it "endless".

I'll say it again, it was a HUGE missed opportunity. Those MP maps would have been ideal for this purpose.

They better refurbish the MP maps for the new PvP mode.  The maps are too pretty to abandon.

I echo the comments regarding a missed opportunity in Doom 2016 and the benefit of including a horde mode into Doom Eternal.

They need to make multiplayer more accessible too, not load the entire game again because you have an itch for a quick Horde game.

Even sneaking an optional Demon mode for co-op game invasions may keep it interesting.

They could make the main campaign and multiplayer into seperate downloadable files.

I mean, didn't some COD games did that?
