I think I found something where inspiration for the new Doomguy armor came from.

The resemblance the new Doomguy armor has with this is very striking, I really wouldn't be surprised if part of the inspiration for the new armor came from this old novels concept art. Also the yellow environment looks familiar.

To be honest, I think they just tried to make it look more like the classic Doom guy armor, but still retaining the feel of the Praetor suit. And then they added a Predator-like shoulder cannon and a wrist blade because why the fuck not.
