An official followup to Undertale was just released for free

Huh, unexpected. Undertale was the type of game that doesn't need a follow up. Curious for sure.

I didn't finish that yet, but I liked what I saw. I'm still on the start.

Finished it, it's about 2 hours long. Without delving too deep, the writing is sweet. It's... quite not what i expected, and has one hell of an ending. Interest peak! I would say it did dragged a bit in the middle. And yes, you get to see some familiar faces and familiar mechanics return like the bullet hell battle system (with a few changes) :)

 

Edit: one more thing I'd like to comment about: Undertale's commentary on video game stories feels more effective and powerful when it was standalone. Hanging out in this universe again is fun and all, but some of the impact of the original story is kinda lost in me. Will the sequel overwrite our choices in the previous game? 

 

Edit 2: Replayed it a bit. If you came here after playing the first game, parts will feel...  off.

I couldn't wait to play this game and went through it all in one sitting. It's every bit as charming and funny as I expected it to be. Can't wait for chapter 2.

Toby has stated that the game isn't set in the same in the same universe as Undertale. I was initially under the impression that this was a prequel to Undertale, and that Kris was (obviously) Chara. However, a few minor changes to this universe negate the possibility of this being a prequel, but rather its own standalone universe. There is a theory going around that Kris/Chara is now going to travel to other dimensions to wreak havoc, and it seems like a plausible scenario to me. I also heard a rumour that the game was going to confirm Sans for Smash Brothers, but I guess he lost out to the piranha plant from Super Mario Bros.

Yeah, I get what you mean. Replaying it reveals discrepancies like Undyne having both eyes.Toby himself even said this is not supposed to be some sort of continuation of Undertale, but then everything is muddy atm. It's some sort of a "spiritual antithesis" to the original, with many points that contrast the previous game (like how we can't actually kill anyone, or you know, the title is written in all lowercase this time!).  It's intriguing, and I can't wait to see what comes next.

I just beat the game's optional boss. He wasn't too hard, outside of that one annoying scythe attack.

The lines he said after defeat were... interesting. Also, the boss tune is super catchy :))))) Been humming it ever since beating him. Toby's touch with making awesome music is immaculate!

- Loving the party system

- OST is FUCKING amazing as usual

- Ralsei & Susie are adorable and are my favorite characters

As for myself, I might check this out some time. Undertale was a decent game. Nothing to form an obsession about like the fanbase seem to have, but still decent in it's own right.
