Touhou

I gotta say, I listen to a lot of doujin Touhou music these days as well.

Also, I forgot one earlier, and I have no idea how I did: Kraftwerk.  They had a huge influence on my own music when I first started listening to them in the early 2000s.  Also one of the most memorable bands I've seen live.

I've been into an expanding range of rock and metal for years, with some rap/hip-hop and pop when I hear something I like. For me, pop doesn't get any better than Michael Jackson, and Eminem is a clear winner on the rap front (although he's definitely past his prime, IMO). Overall favourite, though? Steel Panther. Not only do they play awesome metal in the style of the top 80s glam bands, but they're hilarious and a great live show.

I can't really name a single favorite band. Hell, I'd be hard-pressed to name a single favorite anything. But some of the following bands have grown to be my favorites over the years:

Devin Townsend Project

Gojira

Haken

Lamb of God

Leprous

Machine Head

Meshuggah

Slipknot

Interesting choices, I'm quite curios, post-Enthrone Darkness Triumphant or up until that album? For me, Death Cult Armageddon was the last Dimmu album that was any good, and with Eonian they proved they no longer have it, if that's what they come up after such a long break... both musically and lyrically...

I feel the same about Linkin Park as well. After Meteora and Hybrid Theory they went downhill.

i can't say anything about the newer Dimmu Borgir stuff. (i haven't listened to anything yet.) as for Linkin Park from "Minutes to Midnight" and beyond, i didn't like the new direction they took, and even to this day, it's something i don't like to bring up even in my thoughts. From that point on, they became yet another lame alternative/indie rock/Coldplay wannabe.

Hm, so I take it you've only listened to their older material. In that case, the newer stuff will seem like a massive involution, but that's something you'll have to decide for yourself.

Same for me, just like Dimmu they took a different direction that just didn't make sense.

I really like Dimmu Borgir, but I really don't care for anything that came after Death Cult Armageddon. I haven't heard their new song, nor am I sure if I even want to. Their best album by far is Stormblast.

ah, as i listed only one band, and people did many, i should add Dark Tranquility. no best album, tho: DT just cannot produce albums in a consistent style. ;-)

I had a good laugh when I saw the videos of Dimmu's new album, is this black metal? If yes, not in my book lol.

Fun, lacking creativity, passion, and attitude. Shagrath's performance is also noticeably more tired and bored with each album (and drenched in effects). It doesn't fall under black metal since it was reduced to just an element of their music, I personally find "symphonic dark metal" much more appropriate.

If you've heard DCA it's not worth bothering, it's quite similar to it but lazier and lacking Vortex' operatic voice.
