VanaheimRanger Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) Since I've started playing custom wads in February of this year (no idea what took me so long) I've played a ton of great megawads and multi-map wads, but only a few great single map wads. The only 2 that come to mind off the top of my head are Breach and Brigandine by Viggles. Send me suggestions and I'll add them to the list here: Here are the wads that have been suggested here, as well as some that were suggested to me on Discord (WIP): Spoiler Miasma E1M8b E1M4b Breach Brigandine Hydra Behemoth The Blast Furnace The Ledge Comatose Lilium Object 34: Sonar Saturnine Chapel dead.air dead.wire The Eye Rebel Sky The Backyard Demonastery Doomsday of the UAC (aka UAC_DEAD.WAD) Order of the Odonata Boxes All the Way Down 3x-play Awakening Arcadia Demade Beluga Chord_NG Ovum Nostril Caverns Xaser’s Sharp Things The Given Putrefier Waterlab GZD World Orifice Eden Frozen Time Vaporware Operation Overlord Bury my Heart Knee Deep Dante's Gate Crossing Acheron DR. Big Ol Billy Posted November 14, 2018 I love me a nice one-and-done affair, whether it’s a megamap adventure or perfectly self-contained snack. No mortal Doomer can compete with Viggles’ fastidious visuals, but there are a number of mappers who have given us unique takes on the concept. Here are some maps that I’ve found particularly memorable: Miasma Comatose Lilium Object 34: Sonar Saturnine Chapel dead.air dead.wire The Eye Rebel Sky The Backyard Demonastery Doomsday of the UAC (aka UAC_DEAD.WAD) 9 Share this post Link to post
Capellan Posted November 14, 2018 I'll give a shout-out to 3x-play. It's from 1995, so don't expect modern difficulty or looks, but it does a couple of interesting things including semi-randomised monster placement and moving the locations of keys and weapons depending on the difficulty setting to change the flow of the map. 2 Share this post Link to post

That sounds pretty cool, I'll be sure to check it out. 0 Share this post Link to post

Spie812 Posted November 14, 2018 The first thing that came to my mind was the Vaporware demo. It's a demo of a larger project and it requires Eternity Engine to play, but it has some really neat visuals and gameplay concepts, very nicely demonstrating the engine. 1 Share this post Link to post

Doomkid Posted November 14, 2018 (edited) A few maps from the ancient times I always suggest are Hellrun for Doom2, Doomcity, Bermuda and Area51 (technically 2 maps, but oh well). They’re great time capsules if you want to go back to 1996 for a while and have some good ol’ fun. In it’s day Hellrun was seen as a proto-slaughtermap but it’s extremely tame by current standards. 1 Share this post Link to post
Vanessa Posted November 14, 2018 I don't know any single map wads, but I do know a great fucking mappack. It's called EARTH.wad. other than that I have nothing more to say. 2 Share this post Link to post
dt_ Posted November 14, 2018 You ought to try the current beta of Vela pax, it's a map set, but the maps are so massive and immersive and are also forgiving from pistol start, so treat them as individuals and you're good 2 Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted November 14, 2018 adding The Warlock's Hearth and Altitude you should also check all the single maps that got Cacowards giggle giggle 3 Share this post Link to post
