TeamTNT

Whatever happened to the infamous TeamTNT?

They are not talked about anymore

did they leave doom or did they break up?

TeamTNT technically never disbanded. Several members moved on. And with the passing of Ty Halderman and Jim Flynn I don't expect them to come back together for a new project.

"Most of TeamTNT has split up, but some members are still around" is the rather vague answer from the Doom Wiki page, but beyond that it's surprisingly unsatisfactory on giving much information on who was even a member let alone where they are now.  Ty Halderman passed away a few years ago in 2015. The Casalis apparently both went on into commercial game development.  As for who might still be around, off the top of my head, I can only recall that I think Cadman still posts on these forums, on occasion, and Tom Mustaine might also have some contact with the community (enough to try to straighten out the issues around distribution of Perdition's Gate at least).

Realistically, Ty Halderman was the one "carrying the torch" for TeamTNT - he maintained the website and was clearly central to it's organization. Now that he's passed away, it's safe to say that TNT has too.

Do you remember NAM (1998) and World War II GI (1999)? They were built by TeamTNT on Duke 3D engine and released next to titles like Quake II, Unreal, Half-Life, Quake III Arena. TeamTNT didn't lack courage, granted.

Wasn't that a different group that happened to use a similar name?

The Final Doom controversy.....

In case you guys want a refresher, Team TNT made the sudden announcement that TNT: Evilution was going to be a commerical product. This pissed off a lot of players at the time, calling Team TNT sellouts and greedy, among other things. This is why Evilution ended up on the Top 10 Infamous WADs list in 2003.

But we also got Plutonia with Final Doom so I think it's fine.

Reading this made me feel really emotional for a moment just now.. Ty and TNT were such a huge part of this community and this game’s legacy.

A full list of all the members TNT ever had would be appreciated.

I wonder if TeamTNT got their royalties from id when their product went commercial.

I also wonder if TeamTNT was involved in the PSX port of Final Doom.

I read somewhere that each team member who worked on it got like $1000 USD.  Idk how accurate that was though, and I don't recall where I read it.

Surely not the same person as Skillsaw, right?

Although I'm not sure how many people have that exact name.

Somewhat off topic, but do you guys know who became professional from the old Doom mappers? The only ones I know are Sverre Kvernmo (never was a fan of his style), Matthias Worch and the Casali brother (although I'm not sure what leveldesign did they create after Doom).

According to the doomwiki both Casali brothers did work on commercial products outside of Doom. Milo would work on Global Operations a tactical fps while Dario would work for Valve and create levels for Half-Life, its expansions, and Team Fortress Classic. Dario Casali is also credited with making Crossfire, TFCs Dustbowl, and parts of Ravenholm.

Well, Tim Willits was a Doom mapper and ended up as id Software's lead designer.

Iikka Keränen also comes to mind.

Tom Mustaine did, his company Escalation Studios were the ones who developed SnapMap for Doom 2016.

Yes actually, it's the same guy we know today for Valiant and Ancient Aliens. I recall him mentioning being a member of TeamTNT in one of the Alfonzo Doom radio episodes.

So that's why there were references to the Wraith megawads in that one example map made to demonstrate the addition of classic resources. (source)

Interesting how his solo stuff is better than most of what TNT made together. (Opinion)

Well, years of experience with something will do that.  TeamTNT's heyday was mostly in the early years of Doom after all.

Yes, but someone has to go and add it.  I could go ahead and add what I'm able to find, but someone who was around the community in those days (or better yet was part of the group) would be better qualified, I'd think.

Very true.  I wonder what the Casali's would make now if they still made Doom maps.

So, what I'm hearing is there is unreleased TNT content...yes?
