im looking to play some quake 1 multiplayer in winquake with the QTracker app. but no one is populating the servers. is there a reason nobody plays vanilla quake multiplayer anymore?

I think you're better off to use QuakeWorld over WinQuake unless you're doing some sort of LAN party type thing.  That's where the internet Quake servers have always been and still are.

but quakeworld requires me to download files. and its also barren. im in a quake 1 server in the qtracker app right now. just look for the one server that has a person in it. want to join?

I use to play some Quake 1/2 shenanigans with @Whoo and a few other people some years back but sadly there hasn't been a session since 2013 :(

Use ezQuake source port for multiplayer. It has server search engine and still finds active servers. I mostly play SP, so i use Tyr-Quake src port, it's just fixed winQuake with mouse wheel support.

yeah i could use use EZquake, and i did, but i want to experience multiplayer the way it was back then.
