Axiom Verge coming out Free to Epic Games

Recommended Posts

If you're like me, then you know true beauty lies on the inside. Thus gory, dark, and gritty games are a pleasure. Beginning on Feb. 7th a gory game akin to Metroid, Axiom Verge, will be out (https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-01-25-superb-metroid-a-like-axiom-verge-is-epic-games-stores-next-freebie) on Epic Games for free. It's been out pretty much on all platforms for a while so you may have heard of it but didn't want to put out the cash on an unknown IP. But now you can play the full game without putting down cash: https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/axiom-verge/home

It is made by one person trying to support a disabled child. So if you happen to like the game a lot and want to get him some cash you can always buy it with cash on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/332200/Axiom_Verge/). Oh and if you get stuck, you can glitch some of that pink goo so you can jump up the shaft.

I've never played Axiom Verge, but always wanted to for the Metroid aspect (ha an unknown IP that has all its fame from Metroid). The game also took 5+ years to make if I'm correct. I can imagine the publisher is making money from Epic to be a free game. Since they're doing a free game every 2 weeks to keep people visiting the store.

Chances are the developer already made a lot of money to reach the level of fame. I look forward to playing it.

Dang, I need to go back and actually finish Axiom Verge. I bought it shortly after it came out, and loved it. Then got distracted by countless other things in life and completely forgot about it.

But yeah, I recommend it. It's not perfect, but it was well worth the money. For free, it's a steal.

It seems the Metroid-style genre, is popular with guys, about my age, making their own games. For example "A Robot Named Fight" (https://store.steampowered.com/app/603530/A_Robot_Named_Fight/) is another one...

A lot of people were initially turned off by this one because of the trendy "rogue-like" stuff it talks about and its initial difficulty. But I found the game to be really fun and the rogue-like elements are used to add diversity to it instead of being a grind. Plus there is a clever storyline which incorporates all of the ideas instead of tacked on. I have put over 50 hours into it. Oh and it has split screen local death match.

I know a Robot Named Fight quite well. People accused it of rotoscoping Super Metroid. That was made by a husband and wife team... where the husband made the game and the wife promoted it or something like that.

Never heard of it before, looks interesting. So now you're going to make me open up my damn wallet again. Thanks.

Well it's free. Turns out the publisher or developer pulled all the Steam DRM and that made it crash as he pulled too many files marked "steam." Including SteamExplosion files for the in game steam releases and steam explosions. Always good to see a developer testing their games after making an update.

Ha! Well luckily he fixed it fast. He probably checked that it booted fine and played a bit. But obviously he didn't go to a room with steam in it. I can understand he didn't beat the game again, he's probably sick of playing it.

I think articles said that it crashed instantly when the game took inventory of files.
