Make monsters target barrels

I'd like to think I'm close to nailing this, but it's not working yet--and there might not actually be code to make it work.  But I want to set it up so that monsters will target barrels when you're near them.  It would at least give us the illusion of slightly advanced A.I., right?

 

So I used JumpifCloser to have the barrel spawn a Hate Target that is not solid or shootable when the player stands near.  Then I went into the Imp's Spawn state and set up thing_hate directed at the SpawnID of the actor that inherits from Hate Target.

 

So far, the Imp will not shoot barrels you're standing next to.  Any errors I could have made coming to mind?
