DefilerPhil47 Posted February 27, 2019 So I'd like to share with you guys a fun project I just recently completed and I think you would all appreciate it. I'm a gunsmith by trade and I've been doing it for almost about 15 years now and I've always dabbled with the idea of getting myself a side by side shotgun, just like the one we all know from DOOM II. Normally, the side by side shotguns I work on are pretty pricey and high end, such as the wide range of Beretta shotguns, Winchester Model 21s, Parker Brothers, etc, none of them felt right to cut down nor was it that affordable. Well, one day I had to work on a 10 Gauge shotgun manufactured in Spain by Zabala. Inexpensive Spanish made shotguns made in the 60s, 70s and 80s are by no means the best, but they are available and the steel is good quality, while their fit and overall finish are quite lacking. Needless to say, I had found the gun that I needed to make into my Doom SSG. So after shopping around some, I found a Zamacola Hermanos 'Pride of Spain' 10 gauge shotgun and had it shipped to my shop where the work began. I initially cut down the barrels to the US legal limit of 18" and checked over the whole gun and function tested it. I had the idea of carving the Mark of the Doomslayer into the buttstock, despite the logo being part of the newer DOOM games, I thought it would be a cool homage to all the games. This is the Mark fully carved and stained. Buttstock being stained with a few coats of finish. During the time I was refinishing the stock, I fully disassembled the shotgun itself and polished the internals and reblued the metal. After I had refinished the gun, the barrels were still too long for my liking. Those unfamiliar with US gun laws, the NFA act of 1934 set the regulations for barrel lengths of shotguns (no shorter than 18 inches) and rifles (no shorter than 16 inches) as well as overall length for both (26 inches). In order to legally have a shotgun with a barrel length less than 18 inches, you must follow the guidelines and fill out the 'ATF Form 1' which is the application make and register a firearm, (in this case, I would be making and registering a Short Barrel Shotgun) and pay $200. With the measurements all set, I did the ATF E-File system and submitted fingerprints and all the fun government requirements and gave them my money and expected to wait a while for the ATF to approve my tax stamp. Well, three weeks went by and I got an email from the ATF saying my application had been approved, I was now legally able to take a hacksaw to my shotgun barrel and make it the length I wanted! I'll be shooting in the next few weeks, I'll post some more pictures and videos! 62 Share this post Link to post
DefilerPhil47 Posted February 27, 2019 I also mistakenly made this topic in DOOM general and honestly thought I was posting to Creative Works, if it needs to be deleted and or moved, I understand. 0 Share this post Link to post
Barefootstallion Posted February 27, 2019 This is a badass bit of craftsmanship! Bravo, man! 0 Share this post Link to post

Is there actually a Creative Works forum on this site? By the way, I don't know anything about weapons, but it looks cool as hell with the Doom rune at the buttstock! Really amazing job! Edit: I found the Creative Works section, lol. But anyways this post is too awesome! It should have the right to stay on Doom general. Chezza Posted February 27, 2019 That's cool man. Also being a gunsmith is pretty awesome too. 4 Share this post Link to post
Chow Yun Thin Posted February 27, 2019 That is kickass, man! Will you fire both barrels at the same time with it? Is it safe to do so? 0 Share this post Link to post
Barry Burton Posted February 27, 2019 That is fucking badass. Nice work and can't wait to see demonstration videos. 0 Share this post Link to post

It's 'safe' in terms of me taking the brunt of the recoil and the gun being fine, but I actually fear the stock would brake before my shoulder! It is a 10 gauge, so its pretty damn stout in the recoil department. 3 Share this post Link to post
Decay Posted February 28, 2019 Side by side shotguns are my favourite to shoot. Not going to lie Doom was definitely a factor in getting them! The really good ones do tend to be super expensive though, I stuck with the cheaper brands (Boito's coach gun and Baikal's field SxS). I always felt the SSG was somewhere around 14-15 inch barrels, my 20 inch coach gun is too long but the Mississippi El Dorado special was too small. 10 gauge is a pretty big banger, I've only ever seen one of them, that will probably be hell to fire too often, SxS's tend to kick hard as it is. This is some mighty fine craftsmanship though, great work! 1 Share this post Link to post

This is an awesome piece of craftsmanship worthy of the slayer 0 Share this post Link to post

Count651 Posted March 1, 2019 Double barrel shotguns are some of the sleekest looking guns ever designed, and this is no exception. 1 Share this post Link to post
Michniko Posted March 1, 2019 Insanely cool man! Love the look of it, can't wait for you to post more. 0 Share this post Link to post
DefilerPhil47 Posted March 5, 2019 Shot it today at paper, 2 shots at 7 yards, held a decent pattern with the barrels cut. And here is a video! 13 Share this post Link to post

I guess it hurts your hands to fire both barrels at the same time. You have to wear gloves or something. 0 Share this post Link to post
nrofl Posted March 8, 2019 Make a 2 bore if ya get what i mean @StainlessSteel. Or at least if it wont actually break you collar bone. For reference, on the left is .700 Nitro Express used for killing elephants. On the right is 2 bore... 1 Share this post Link to post
DefilerPhil47 Posted March 11, 2019 So I started working on another Doom Themed 10 gauge shotgun. Here are some progress pictures. It will be sporting 19" barrels and have an overall length of 27 inches. 11 Share this post Link to post
H3XM0D Posted March 11, 2019 Gun smithing looks like a fun profession! How did you get in to your trade? Do you run your own shop? 0 Share this post Link to post
DefilerPhil47 Posted March 25, 2019 The Doom 2016 Super Shotgun is all set. Was up very late last night putting it all together and making sure it worked! Overall length is 27" and barrel length is 19". I shaped the forend to match the 2016 model as close as possible and added a sling swivel there. I filled the Mark of the Slayer in with red epoxy and finished over it and it came out great! 11 Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted March 25, 2019 Imagine the fun story to tell when someone notices that and asks what it is. :) 1 Share this post Link to post

I got into gunsmithing because I liked guns, college wasn't for me, and I don't like working on other people's cars (only my own). I work for a small private shop with 3 other full time gunsmiths. 17 hours ago, Dark Pulse said: Imagine the fun story to tell when someone notices that and asks what it is. :) "Hey, whats that?" :clears throat: IN THE FIRST AGE, IN THE FIRST BATTLE, WHEN THE SHADOWS FIRST LENGTHENED.... KVELLER Posted March 26, 2019 (edited) Can you actually fire that double-barreled shotgun reliably without a stock? 0 Share this post Link to post
Gaia74 Posted March 27, 2019 (edited) I would pay to have that shotgun as an ornament!!!!!!! 1 Share this post Link to post
DefilerPhil47 Posted April 9, 2019 Here is me shooting the '2016 Super Shotgun'. 10 gauge 00 buck 3-1/2" magnums. I had to break it open over my knee because the cocking levers need to be adjusted. Regardless, the thing is so much fun to shoot it's hard not to giggle like I did. 7 Share this post Link to post
