John Carmack was the designer of the popular virtual reality headset, originally known as the Nintendo Virtualboy.

Really? That kinda explains why now he works on Oculus Rift and, I suppose, loves VR.

GZDoom fixes this bug, but most vanilla diehards are really annoyed that the port changes that behavior.

In fairness, last time I tried that map in GZDoom I ended up in a reality where every other living thing was Ugandan Knuckles so I'm actually with the vanilla purists on this occasion.

-iD ditched the random sound pitches that were originally present in Doom because they thought it sounded dumb.

-The iD guys wanted Doom to be a step above Wolfenstein in every way possible, so to top the random fart sound effect found in that game they implemented the random "radsuit leak" to troll players.
-iD Software is composed of satanists and Doom was their medium to propagate their beliefs through.

-Heretic invented the revenant.

Except for Sandy Petersen, who is Christian but he was going to win money so he accepted. This is why his levels look like garbage, he never cared except for the money!

In the Spawning Vats, which is level 7 of the original Doom, there is a table with playing cards on that was left over from when the game originally began with four marines playing cards against each other.

If anyone doubts this absolutely true fact, Eurogamer confirmed it in a clearly very well researched article in 2013.

Doom 3 used a real animatronic shark to scare players, but Tim Willits didn't like how it looked so he turned down the game's brightness so that no one would see it.

The animatronic was later repurposed into a costume that Karl Urban would wear in the Doom movie to show the effects that C24 was having on him. When Tim Willits visited the set, he was furious, and demanded that all subsequent scenes be filmed from Urban's point of view so that no one would realize.

Tom Hall has a rare condition where, when asked multiple questions at once, instead of answering them one at a time he'll just settle on "Doomguy is definitely Commander Keen's son, no room for misinterpretation here." As a consequence, nobody has been able to confirm that he named the Doom Bible's Unmaker after the weapon Rebecca Heineman was adding to the SNES and Macintosh ports at the time.

-Id software felt bad for how many people worldwide were deathmatching instead of working and decided to add the super shotgun to the game so it could outclass every other weapon and make deathmatch stale and monotonous

-The design of the cacodemon is based on a picture from a sex magazine owned by Romero, which featured a red ballgag in it's cover

-Tom Hall left Id software because Doom wasn't living up to his standards. He has come on record saying that "it needed dismemberment and finishing moves"

The Arch-vile's attacks are not actually harmful; the damage taken is simply Doomguy shitting his space armor thinking of all the horrible pain it looks like it could cause.
