Nah dude, c'mon.

I was trying to convey a mental picture of Romero sitting by himself at midnight, mapping, the only light in the room the monitor, the only sound the tapping of the keyboard, he's got some good ideas for this new map.... when all of a sudden he feels a presence sitting behind him, can almost feel it smiling, he's suddenly terrified and sitting bolt upright, eyes bugging out, sweat appearing on his forehead, and from midnight to six AM (as the legend goes) he puts together the most evil level he can possibly think of, filled with lava and wood and marble, throws over a dozen barons and a cyberdemon in there, all the while feeling this presence behind him grinning and nodding approvingly, and then as soon as he finishes and presses 'save' the presence disappears and he spins around in his chair and realizes he's alone in the room, maybe he was ALWAYS alone in the room, but that feeling was there...

oh, my bad, such a nasty person i am.

i thought he was feeling satan's dick on his back.

Horrible! Horrible, me!

originally maps were made in a 3 part process:

1st : draw it on graph paper, making sure you align all vertices with the dots;

2nd : scan it into the computer which was a 2 hour process since graph paper didn't come in small sizes;

3rd : applying textures on top of the image.

Eventually someone, sources say either Sandy Peterson's lover who happened to be there for a after-work cocktail or one of the cleaning ladies, mentioned drawing software existed and those first two steps could be skipped and if they did it that way (and here the sources diverge again) they could a) already be drinking that damned cocktail or b)cleaning the room as she was supposed to be doing instead of waiting around for them to finish their damned work.

Grezzo Due is the original doom game envisioned by Carmack and Romero. They wanted it nasty and controvertial, the playable character was the idealized human being Romero always wanted to be. But when Tom Hall played it, he was offended by its whacky nature and lack of storyrelling, then he offered his space soap opera masterpiece as the ingame story. Romero and Carmack understood that they went too far.

So Tom Hall was scrapped from the project... Oh, and they toned down a bit the offensive content, just for the profits.

Oh, thats surprising!

I didn't have you for a religious person.

I invited the horned one to my chamber for a good amount of pleasure, but he said he has a meeting with Romero.

I must have missunderstood him.

I'm so sorry.

Now i know, they were wading furiously!

I made an idiot of me for feel jealous of their partnership.

Every single game in existence runs on a modded Doom engine. Even games made before Doom came out (You see, Carmack is obviously a transcendent being capable of time travel).

As the textures would suggest, Doom 2 was supposed to take place at some point in the past, but id couldn't agree on when. Before they ultimately ditched the idea, the smaller Masterminds were known as Anachrotrons.

in fact, Super Mario was made as a tech demo to prove the idtech engine could work as a side scroller

I can't take credit for this fact, this is from Agent_Ash in the ZDoom discord:

Quote

Doom's chaingun is a shape-shifting SCP object

I even suspect the chaingun may be a hellish artifact that is actually behind everything that happens in Doom

it doesn't understand human weaponry so it does its best to imitate how it works

everyone is fooled due to its mind-control abilities

think for a second

first, the chaingun is somehow both magazine-fed and belt-fed

it shoots pistol ammunition (so, probably 9 or 10 mm)

its RPM is extremely low but it has a rotary block of barrels

it also makes shotgun sounds when in enemy hands

also nobody really knows if it has 4 or 6 barrels

If John Carmack ever releases the nine levels he created back in '93, they will certainly become part of official Doom IWAD canon and be placed before Knee Deep In The Dead in the original game's chronology.

In MAP09 of Doom II, if you wait for about 10 minutes doing nothing, then the main area with the lifts will flood with the damaging liquid. If you exit the area after that, then the rest of the levels will start flooding, and the Icon of Sin transforms from John Romero into Sandy Petersen. Additionally, the IoS backwards talk will replace John Romero with Sandy Petersen, barrels will be in every map, a chasm will be at the end of every level, and the Downtown levels will have more buildings.
