Custom monster randomizer

What would be the base code for a monster randomizer?

I tried reverse engineering one from Scalliano's Shuffle, but if I start or finish a level with this it completely freezes my computer,

and I'd rather not keep resetting it.

I have not used them myself, but I would imagine that they will give you a good start about how to go about designing the randomizer
