Ribbiks Posted August 10, 2019 Debussy is exponentially more interesting than Satie imo. Gotta go with the latter even if it's not my favorite piece of his. Here are some of their contemporaries, basically romantic vs. impressionist: 1 Share this post Link to post
baja blast rd. Posted August 10, 2019 (edited) The first piece is faultless but feels 'safe' and doesn't hit the emotional notes that work for me. The Ravel does, which would be enough to win out even if it had the sophistication of Chopsticks, but it is quite good too. I'm a sucker for dreamy arpeggios, as well as arpeggiated figuration that periodically breaks to explore nearby notes. The whole tone stuff is neat. Let us keep the classical train going with two pieces that were under-heralded in their day, but have undergone a resurgence in my mp3 player. There is no real right answer, but the teasing out of finer preferences can act as Rorschach test for appreciation of musical subtleties. (I like these unironically.) 0 Share this post Link to post
Unitron Posted August 10, 2019 Thyrane, never heard of them before but reminds me of Immortal. I really like that melodic black metal sound. 1 Share this post Link to post
