Assets for games

Recommended Posts

So I am making a fps game and I was wondering If I could use freedoom's assets? It is completely free and I am making it for fun. It won't go on steam only on itch. I will put in that art is from FreeDooM with a link to the official site.

I wouldn't know the answer to this, but I can only assume it'd probably be okay with the permission of the guys who were behind freedoom.

Ok I will make the game and post a copy when a demo is out. If I get in trouble then I know what not to do.

It's BSD licensed. See https://freedoom.github.io/about.html

A collection of reusable artwork

Freedoom contains hundreds of original textures, sound effects and music tracks that can be reused royalty-free by Doom level authors and other independent game developers.

Freedoom is liberally licensed under the BSD license - all that is required is that you include a short copyright statement that credits the Freedoom project.

This also allows commercial use, right?

Nevermind, just read the details on the Wikipedia page.

The BSD License allows proprietary use and allows the software released under the license to be incorporated into proprietary products. Works based on the material may be released under a proprietary license as closed source software, allowing usual commercial usages under them.

Which is nice, because one of my commercial projects is balls-deep in Freedoom.
