Requires: GZDoom, Freedoom 2

How to start: Make sure you have Freedoom 2 in your GZDoom folder. Paste the files there. Select both HMAdemo.wad and HMAdemo.pk3 and drag and drop them to GZDoom.exe.

CAUTION: Play on the MIDDLE DIFFICULTY (Your Life), the higher ones are not properly applied yet.

 

Heavy Metal Armageddon DEMO is the first two levels of a free, non-commercial Doom II WAD based on Freedoom 2, made using GZDoom, Doom Builder 2, Slade 3 and GIMP. Built in approx. 3 months.

Best played with no freelook, no jumping or other features nonindigenous to Doom II.

 

Please note that this is my first game making experience ever, so this demo exists to gather feedback and improve the final WAD. I hope you'll enjoy it.:)

Why I haven't submitted it to /idgames? Because I've read they don't accept demos of megawads and that's basically what this is. Should I try anyway?

Here's an overview of the weapons to make you maybe just a tad more interested. It's important to me because I NEED the feedback so I know all this effort makes any sense.

 

The main character is the angel of death and I didn't want any standard weapons, just something that makes you feel like you use inner, godly power. Also, the theme is heavy metal, so...

 

ELECTRINITY

The equivalent of fist attack, this is a "taser" that you use when making the horns gesture. Not the classic horns, because that has hellish connotations, but something similar. More powerful than Doom's fist, but slow.

 

HEAVY LIGHT

Replacement for the pistol. It's fast, but it's a projectile-based weapon, so you have to account for the delay. You point at people and send them an orb of divine light that tears through their corrupted souls.

 

BOOMSNAP

You snap your fingers and the enemy you chose is minced meat. A powerful weapon with low ammo supply, so make every shot count.

 

SAW-REOLE

An angel's aureole that hides a surprise! It has retractable blades that turn it into a circular saw.

 

DOVE OF WAR

Dove of Peace? FORGET IT! Here's something a lot more effective. I won't spoil this one. This one I had the most fun with. SPLAT!

Raise thorn vines from the ground for area damage!

I'm using GZDoom g3.7.2 and FreeDoom 2. Is this not fixed yet because is still beta? Or there's something wrong?

Did you add the .pk3 file as well? Select both HMAdemo.wad and HMAdemo.pk3 and drag them to the GZdoom.exe.

Just tried this, and it's badass! I love the weapons a ton, and the destroyed city environments are done in a way that I don't think I've seen done in a doom wad before! Hell, it almost feels like a Build engine game sometimes, especially with the tone. Keep it up! These levels are a great start

I don't know how I didn't notice the .pk3 for the 1st time! Thanks!

 

I played this demo and I can only say good things about it! The weapons are so cool to use! I like the level structure and progression. Also, the images throughout the levels are awesome and are a good way to involve the player in the game's ambient and story.

 

I notice a little bug:

In the second map, the ceiling is to low for the player to pass, so it's impossible to go back.

 

I guess my only complain is to not be able to look up and down, since the scenery is so beautiful to look at.

I really liked this and I hope to see this project growing in the future! So keep up the good work! :)
