Delta Touch on Android

Recommended Posts

Thanks.

EDIT: Found whole load of versions at https://allfearthesentinel.net/zandronum/wads.php?page=68 and some eweps* a few pages later.   Ok, eonweapons_rc8.1.pk3 seems to be latest one, working correctly with DBABrm.   EWeps is a silly comedy Extreme Weapons mod.   Also found a DBABrm2.pk3 and that works as well.

I can only find eonweapons-mspd-v*.pk3 on wad-archive.com which looking in it is just some MSPaint version of the sprites and throws an error trying to even run.  Says it's based on eweapons_v51a.wad but I can't find that anywhere, not even with wadseeker.   Also that interpic in the video is still nowhere to be seen.   DBAB has MK ninjas dressed formally (Formality!) as its interpic.

I'll look up the exact wad list we played with and mirror it on my dropbox for you tonight when I get home.

Zandronum has an in-game browser. A bit clunky, but better than nothing.

Eh, it's so bad that I'd choose nothing any day. I'll elaborate why, though.

First, the master server seem to be in 90% case "off", it just doesn't show any server and I don't know why. It took me at least 10 times to get the damn thing to show at least any servers. And when it shows servers, it often just show like 5% of all of all servers available, which is about 10-20; at rare point it shows 30% servers, but never all of them. Then, it's a real pain in the butt to check what adjustments, options and even iwads\pwads the server is using. Also, even if you don't have a single common additional wad, you can't download it so you cannot connect to server and thus forced to search for the wad manually; EVEN if you have all the wads, you still can't connect to the server, because you'd need to prelaunch the game with all the wads loaded in correct order.

It's so bad and optimized that even the "ping name" words overlays over the 4th option in the "browse server" menu that I can't even see what it supposed to mean.

vFggprW.png

The only times I managed to connect to server is by writing the server's ip in the console manually, that's the only way to play Zandronum Multiplayer on Delta-Touch unfortunately... The Beloko seem to not care about server browser either. The only hope is we can contact the bond, developer of Internet Doom Explorer, to give us a hand and port his masterpiece of a server browser for android. At least he still have forum on his website. So if anyone is curious, you can ask him there. http://doomutils.ucoz.com/forum/

Does anyone know how to disable freelook when using a gamepad?

Sorry just Logged in after a while. If the setting doesn't work in game you can reduce the gamepad look axis sensitivity to zero (or completely unbind the y axis)

hey guys, just wanted to ask,

can i edit the key to which the custom buttons correspond to?

for example: can I change the KP0 key to 'Q'?

edit:

NVM, i actually found out a workaround. I edited the lzdoom.ini file and edited my binds so that the command corresponds to both Q and KP0

@beloko Greetings, Would you be able to post your source code for Delta Touch somewhere, as per the requirements of GPL? I don't see it on your github. Thank you.

Would he need to release the source code of what's technically a launcher?

GPL does not offer linking exceptions to that capacity (nor is Delta Touch just a front end, it's apparent that there are in fact modifications to the individual ports). He needs to provide all connecting code under the same GPL license or he's liable to GPL's auto termination clause

It's come to my attention that @beloko only hands out the code on request? I have misgivings about that, mobile platform or not, especially with the fact that it could disappear the whole code if anything were to happen. But these are just personal issues (and while I'm not sure if GPLv3 allows for that, I am not a lawyer), so consider this a request. PM me if that's fine.

@beloko Any plans to implement an alternate shooting button on the phone's volume keys?

You should be able to map the volume keys from the gamepad setup (Disable auto high of touch controls)

Actually this isn't very obvious, I'll make volume keys easier to setup

No, I don't have the alternative HUD on.

Other than changing the screen size there's nothing you can really do at least I don't think so.

Just updated to the latest version and if I understand correctly we can save load touch screen set ups. I can't see how to access this? Also if we set one up one a device and then say we shared it amoung the wider community would it work on a device with different screen size / resolution? Cos it could be quite cool to perhaps import these files from each other.

Also, a suggestion for the next release. If there could be a reminder about which order additional wads / pk3 files should be loaded and if it's possible to change the order in a more simple way rather than having to delete the whole selection. If we could move things up and down with arrows (kinda like zdl) it would be quite helpful.

As ever, very grateful for the work you do Beloko thanks very much

I had no idea it was an option to bind to physical keys! If I don't have to pick up a thumb to fire, that's one of my biggest handicaps removed! Thanks!

My footwork still leaves a lot desired, but it's getting better. I do much better with absolute movement.

I wish we could have an android device with a few more hard keys like this around the perimeter. I have a telescoping bluetooth controller that fits around my phone PSP-style, but it's not very good for Doom and it's actually pretty large in my pocket so I don't tend to carry it unless I specifically plan to play emulators.

And, yes, thank you for DTouch. My computer stays in 'Work Mode' and I do most of my fun stuff on mobile, so I get a lot more dooming in now.

Yeah it's not particularly clear sorry! Go back to the main menu in the game, top right there are 3 icon, it's the one on the left which has a 'save' icon inside it.

It saves the data in '....Delta/user_files/touch_layouts/' There are numbered folders, you should be able to share these, the problem is it will be difficult to know which one is which as you can not see from the filename! They will looks the same on all devices as it's all normalised. A way to share would be good..

Yes good idea to make it easier to re-order mods, this wouldn't be too hard actually, I could make a re-orderable list pop up when you press on command line.

So, about my earlier post, I got a new phone with opengl 3.3 and the brightmaps on 4.3.3 were still messed up.  That was until this last update fixed all that for me.  Everything works absolutely perfect now.  Just wanted to show my appreciation and thank Beloko for all the hard work he puts into this app.  Thanks Beloko, you rock!

@beloko I could be missing something, but it seems that the setup for chocolate doom and the setup for chocolate heretic are different, which unfortunately means that heretic-specific key bindings cannot be remapped, such as fly up/down and the inventory controls. Would it be possible to either merge these extra functions into the chocolate doom setup or to port a choco heretic setup to the app?

OK I see the problem. Would one 'super set' config be OK? So they all use the same config. I can add separate setups for each game but it will add a couple of MB.

I think a super set config sounds like it should do the trick! I assume by that you just mean that the extra inputs and binds would be added to the choco doom setup menu somewhere, in which case that would be perfectly ok.

On this same note: I also note that custom buttons cannot show up while in the setup menu; I suppose they all have key values shared with a normal keyboard, so they should be mappable without being necessarily present, but that does add an extra layer of obfuscation to the mix, so it would also be nice if the custom buttons could be present to directly bind to in the setup as well.

Just to check, the problem with the key setup is when you are using a physical keyboard?

For the custom touch screen buttons I can allow them to to appear, but I am wondering which buttons are missing for from the touch screen on Choc Doom/Hexen etc? As in, what would the custom buttons map to? In theory they all *should* be covered by the standard touch buttons but I may have missed something.

Edit: oh yes as you say fly up/down doesn't seem to work for Heretic

No, I don't use anything but the touchscreen. I prolly shouldnt have mentioned the (touchscreen) keyboard; I was just thinking there about a workaround on how to bind the custom buttons, but the custom buttons may not even have equivalents on it.

More importantly, the functions that are missing are the fly up/down buttons (there is currently no way I'm seeing to be able to fly up or down at all), but the inventory controls are also tough to manage on-the-fly and when under pressure, since you have to click (tap) to open the inventory controls (extra layer of commitment/inconvenience) then tap the buttons you need (which can include also cycling through items... all without moving or looking or firing since touching anywhere else hides the inv controls buttons). It makes the inventory really tough to deal with, but having the next, previous, and use buttons be present all the time would mitigate the issue. You could add new custom buttons or reassign old ones for these and the flight controls if that's easiest for you; that would solve the issue for me. I just would like a way to customize the inventory controls and flight is a necessity. It may also be good to mention that you can't just look up or down and move forward to fly up or down in choco like you can in z-based ports so this is that much more needed here.

Additionally, the trash/drop inv item button is also unnecessary and only serves as something to misclick on; I don't think I've ever even tried to use it in all the years I've played heretic (even on zdoom ports on pc) and in fact it doesn't work in choco anyway as it's not native to the original game.

Speaking of custom buttons, and apologies this is a tangent at this point, would it be possible to have some whose icons are arrows? (Also cool to see the playstation face buttons in there; their unique look is nicer for these types of actions than the different looking crosshairs) It's a minor thing since I can tell what my buttons do based on where I chose to put them, but it is also weird to use different looking crosshair icons to cycle next/prev inventory and fly up/down. The fist icon I think works well to sum up "use item," but the others don't relate at all to their functions for lack of appropriate icons to choose from. Regardless, the custom buttons work very well for these actions (better than the q-sliders too, which are super cool but I just can't find a good use for them yet given the attention and time their use requires, a problem the buttons don't share) while playing on the z-based ports, so being able to use them in choco would be a huge boon!

DAAAAAAAANNNNNNNGGGGG!!!!!  Ton's of content to sort through, hope you don't mind me using links to these as examples when talking about the app, cuz that's gonna happen, lol.

I have a some questions.

What control methods do you use on your devices?

Any lesser known micro computers or phone hardware that we can promote as a good for Dooming?  Any others you do not recommend?

What screen capture app are you using?  I'm having difficulty finding one that's good for mobile use and desktop use, like DeX.  Most have content restrictions due to the HDMI license, so no sound and stuff.

Any pics of your setup for gaming?  Most mobile gamers don't post gaming setups, I'd like to change that, too bad what I take pics with is also what I game on, lol.

Do you have a PC as well to compare performance?  If so I'll gladly sit and listen/read your impressions, as well as anyone else reading this. I don't want to have to buy a computer as my goal is to replace it with my phone, this'll help me and others like me.

The last question is something I've been thinking about since I discovered the app and this community.  I own 1 PC and it's on windows Home 7 and has the very first intel integrated graphics, I haven't done anything except console gaming since the early 2000's.  Everything I've learned about Doom modding I either learned before 2000, or from just reading stuff online after I got Delta Touch and found my old IWADS.  I have 0 frame of reference for how this performs compared to ANY PC.  I'm interested in seeing how Delta Touch compares to a modern PC with regards to performance, not so much the lightweight source ports, but the more robust ones like GZ.  We're in a unique position to show that the gap between small form factor and processing power is truly closing, and things like Quake 2 RTX and Quake VR are getting people to focus on games from the past.  Not to mention the millions of jaded gamers that hate the new loot box and monetization paths that most games take.  I also take Android as a gaming platform seriously, not these mobie gatcha clones, but true games.  There's so much capability in these little devices, and finally people are starting to realize it.

I thank you for posting a link to your channel, I've already watched a few mins worth of content and subscribed. Haven't seen some of these mods before, and the rest of the content is right up my alley.  You on r/androidgaming?  If not check there for updates on new titles and sales, but with your content you probably are a sub.  Just got Reventure based off it's reviews and plan to play it once Dead Cells gives me some free time.

I'd also like to thank everyone that contributes to this amazing community!  I haven't posted much, but I've been coming on the site just for a breath of fresh air during all of this.  It's nice to have a place to escape to.

I have tried it using all gzdoom versions and lzdoom and zandronum but that doesn't work either.

I wanted to try this, so I downloaded the Doom RPG and the rest of compatible/addon mods to check on phone. So far I've found only Colorful Hell and LegenDoom are conflicting with each others (like missing gibs etc.). The whole mod package is compatible with other universal mods like double jump, bolognese gore etc. I've repackaged all the mods and gave them ordered name to load easily with a single short command. Anyone interested in Doom RPG to play on Delta Touch can download my compiled pack from this link (all credits to the respective mod authors):

All you need is to download the zip file and extract the mod pk3 files into /mods/drpg/ directory and then run with a simple custom args (you can manually select the mods as well, the files are named on an order):

-file mods/drpg/*

I've tested this on PC and Android (on OnePlus 7 Pro and a generic TV Box) version of GZDoom 3.8.2 and so far there was no problem running the game (except a few rare cases of crashes).

Just to check do you have the latest 3.5.2 version of the app?

If you do, how do I reproduce it happening? I have tested LZDoom with GLES2 and it didn't occur, do you need to run a particular mod?
