How to make a pwad?

I'm basically a mapping noobie, so don't be surprised with this incredibly dumb question. I had been editing an Iwad, which I now know is bad. I was wondering how to create a Pwad so that I can still play classic doom. Again, sorry for this extremely dumb question.
