Best way to throw players in the dark. Without giving them a seizure

So lets say you made a trap that lowers the floor and puts them into a dark room and light blinks on and off. Well I tried that and my eyes nearly burned. 

 

What would you suggest might be to make a dark room dangerous

Tried it worked pretty well. Only issue is mostly how some lights blink slowly out of sync

Nvm fixed it. And learned that making blink lights where players cant see shit is a bad idea

Use flickering dynamic lights instead of sector lighting. Less epilepsy inducing and actually looks better.

if you're targeting advanced sourceports, you can also play with light colors, and prolly create some effects with ACS.
