It works on most walls if you pay attention to some basic steps, though it requires some practice if you want to pull it off fast and consistently. This right here should help you:

Make a practise map such as this

and add a rocket launcher and some rocket shells

If you use a recent GZDOOM you have to enable wallrunning

fire some rockets and strafe along the wall while adjusting the angle of the forward motion

at some slight angle the speed increase will be quite apparent

with a bit of practice you will overtake the rockets.

I can easily wallrun north-south or south-north, not so much east-west or west-east.
