Titanic Doom (Official Update Thread)

Recommended Posts

It looks impressive thus far.... but I don't understand the limitation of "sectors only." It seems the ultimate goal of this project is making something that looks as accurate as possible in the Doom engine, and I feel like you're hampering yourself by not including models of many of the ship's objects. You could really fill the ship with intricate designs if you allowed yourself to expand out from sector based mapping. Cars, pianos, boilers... they'd look much cleaner and more intricate if they were made using models.

Thank you for your comment @Scuba Steve, yes I understand where you are coming from, and I have fully taken in information from other people aswell about the use of models in maps, but for this, I decided to do it this way, as I want to achieve such a crazy idea, in future projects after Titanic, I will consider models for use, but for now, I will keep Titanic as is and continue with my mad adventure.

Again, thank you for your comment :).

The other reason may be performance based; this map is already taxing your pc in some of those videos... Would it improve performance to use models? I have a feeling this map is only going to get bigger...

Yes, the project is going to be absolutely massive, I still have 10 decks to construct, cargo holds, restaurants, cabins etc etc, for the time being, as explained in a few of showcasings of the project, it is currently classed as a "can it be done" style attempt, to even manage to build every single corridor, every single cabin, every single bed, every single chair is a feat on its own.  I understand your concerns, but people are happy to see the progress of such a huge project and what I have shown already :).

1 part of the 1st class stateroom corridor leading from the grand staircase to the officers quarters, the door in the distance is the Captains quarters, a door is situated in that doorway you see which seperates the officers quarters from the staterooms.

Also found a little time to make some teeny tiny 3D plaques for each room :P.13091002842989199360_20190902223909_1.png.4030a01d05a31816d7b241d0e6893eac.png13091002842989199360_20190903013220_1.png.4440a2336e6f84d8110c4b09a8eac399.png

Just beginning work on the Wireless Room (or the Marconi Room as it was called), starting with the desk where all the messages were sent and received, added a few details so far including the official Marconi code book and a diary, and yes, a damn pencil.649307578_titanic(editarea)at2019_09.0718-58-28.019R3074.jpg.2f000d236030af9b5d500dc7813265f6.jpg

Wireless Room (Marconi Room) very near completion, if not already.  Some plans and sources indicate a cupboard of some sort in the room aswell, so guess I'm building one of those aswell :).

Wireless Room (Marconi Room) generator room situated next door to the wireless, it is commonly known as the Silent Room, as the walls were extra thick to drown out the sound of the generator working away.

What about seperating the exterior and each of the decks via line portals? It would probably be better performance wise than stacking a shitload of 3D floors on top of each other.

Looks fucking amazing. Keep it up!

Thanks for your comment, and yes, my plan is to portal between each deck, so I can build each deck as seperate sectors and grid space, and portal between them.  The exterior is already portal'd, you enter the Grand Staircase via the 1st Class entrances on the boat deck :).

And thank you :).

Hi all,  not posted here in a while, so here we go.

Due to my own mistake of build order, I've decided to delete the Grand Staircase from the current build, as I have decided to portal it instead of build it in one large stack.  Also because I didn't sector portal it, I couldn't put two hallways above or below eachother and lineportal them because Lineportals are infinitely high, so can't get round that, I have decided to do the Grand Staircase last once all other decks are complete.

For now, I have been concentrating on working on A deck (below the boat deck), this deck was the first class main deck, with staterooms, the first class lounge, the first class smoking room and other first class requirements and facilities.

1 of 2 corridors leading to the 1st class staterooms on A deck.

This somehow reminded to me The Shining. And this is creepy as hell. I don't feel comfortable looking this corridor (:

Thought I'd take some time to play with skyboxes, with my experience with UT2004 and UT3 mapping, they seem to work exactly the same way, so here's a quick preview of the sky the Titanic will have when you're outside, its not finished yet, this is just one angle.

Damn dude this is such a impressive and stunning work. I bet my a*s that this is going to be instant cacoward.

Anyway it was allready mentioned here and i want to add my cent to it too, i believe replacing some 3d floor with line portals will boost the perfomance nicely

Some work has been done on the 1st class staterooms on A deck and is currently going well so far.  Need to do some work on the lighting placements, but overall, I'm happy.

Also, all doors now have a door knob sound when opening, and also a closed wooden door hinge sound when closing.

And, to answer a view queries, Titanic Doom now has music!  It is a midi piano version of Hymn To The Sea featured on the soundtrack for the 1997 movie, it has been thrown through Audacity and I have applied some High Quality Tempo changes to it to slow it down a little and also added some echo, it sounds lovely to say the least and also fits in with the decor and the project itself, it also sends out an amazing vibe of respect for those who lost their lives.

Also done some more work on the Sky Box of which the Titanic will be sailing under.

Also been playing with vintage photo effects, someone even said to me "looks like a photo from before she launched."...

Always happy to share screenshots of my work so far, currently looking forward to constructing the 1st class reading and writing room and also the 1st class lounge which is situated aft of the staterooms.

Thank you again to all those who are still continuing to support the project and for their comments!

Also thank you for viewing my work and always remember, keep your eyes peeled on here, facebook, discord, or ModDB for more screenshots!

They say that the map Frigate is starting to reach it's human limits on speedrunning in Goldeneye 64. I don't know why but this map reminds me of it as well as the historic ship. I can't wait to plunge the depths.

Holy shit, this is a fascinating idea. Using a combination of palette and zdoom effects, this is possible to do in real-time. Maybe a more subtle, muted sepia with filmgrain would be possible. The Blades of Agony team is implementing something like this.

Hello all,

Been a bit since I posted anything, time to do so!

Just finished off the port side foward 1st class staterooms on A deck and am ready to copy these to the starboard side and change all polyobject tags accordingly,  (both sides were identical in terms of layout, so a quick copy and paste saves me time), from there I will build the ladies lavatories, gents lavatories, either bathrooms and also a few more staterooms in the centre either side of the boiler casing which leads up to the first funnel.

First class corridor as seen in a previous screenshot, but now with the light fixtures in place which I am still 50/50 on in terms of design:

Small corridor on A deck which leads off of the first class elevator entrance, 3 stateroom doors pictured:

Stateroom A-3, this was a double room designed for a family of 3 or 4:

Work is always progressing, I don't always stop to post previews, but do not worry, it is still going :).

Again, thank you to all those who are supporting my project, and please continue to do so :).

This reminds me of the old “Titanic: Adventure out of Time” game from the 90s that I used to play. I always remember being disappointed with that game as there were quite a few areas of the ship that were inaccessible in-game such as the dinning saloons and much of the crew areas. I’m looking forward to playing your full recreation of the ship!

Hello all!

Its been a while since Titanic saw some work!  With the release of UDB (Universal Doom Builder) comes greater times, and with this, Titanic has resumed!  At the moment my new system build is on hold due to wanting to find a better motherboard to coincide with my new hardware choices.

But for now, here's some screenshots of the First Class Lounge as it currently stands!

This is wonderful! I actually had an idea like this, only not built in Doom. Imagine a game where the Titanic (or other historical events) are recreated in a true to life, documentary sort of way, where all you do is talk to NPC's who give real life accounts of the event in question. I've always thought something like that would make for an excellent edutainment game, which could even be played at schools. If you ever pursue such a project, let me know! :)
