FractalBeast Posted September 4, 2019 Been playing too much modded Minecraft lately, and my love for modding, Quake 1 and the fact that the max FOV slider in Minecraft is literally called Quake Pro got me thinking. Just what does "The source code of the Quake and QuakeWorld engines was licensed under the GPL on December 21, 1999. The id Software maps, objects, textures, sounds, and other creative works remain under their original proprietary license." mean? Can I make shitty blocky Grunts and Ogres with the OG textures and sounds or do I have to make my own? 0 Share this post Link to post

Gez Posted September 4, 2019 Technically you can probably reuse the textures and sounds, it's not like anybody will really care, they've been used in Doom mods thousands of times. But you're not given the right to do it by Quake being GPLed. 3 Share this post Link to post
