Possible ways to modify vanilla Doom HUD?

By "modify vanilla Doom HUD", I mean exactly that - just modifying vanilla Doom HUD's colors, fonts, face graphics to perfectly usable into most source ports.

you can use SLADE to replace color palettes and art(the fonts are just images) 

it can also convert .PNG images to Doom images for use in the vanilla engine.
