What is 'The Void'?

Is this 'Void Gliding' possible on console ports?

Void gliding is presumably possible on the newest batch of ports. Several of the older console ports make it possible to pass through walls all over the place, but I'm not sure you can call those "void glides" when the trick has a different reason for happening.

When you type idclip (if it's D2) or idspispopd (if it's D1) and get out of the map? I imagine you're more used to modern games like cod or something.
