TheHit_61x Posted July 30, 2020 I just finished these two wads last week and I had a blast beating them. In no particular order + Running late 2 - Action packed with some lite slaughter here and there and awsome map layouts. The story is also unique and funny. + 1000 Lines CP2 - Great map/theme variety and great usage of otex textures ( you can tell this is not eviternity). The maps are short and sweet so you can probably beat it in a couple of hours. Overall pretty good stuff, I still need to finish 3 is a crowd but im pretty sure im going to nominate it as well since its a very unique experiance to say the least ( I mean in a good way of course) 10 Share this post Link to post

FrancisT218 Posted August 1, 2020 (edited) +++DBP26 (supercedes any previous DBP nominations I've done as best one this year so far. Honestly I'd have to think at least two DBP's should feature in the Top 20 this time around) Edited August 1, 2020 by FrancisT18 6 Share this post Link to post
Phobus Posted August 1, 2020 (edited) Along those lines, I'd really like to see @Big Ol Billy at least being considered for Creator of the Year this year. I've worked alongside him on a fair few DBPs now, and both his work-rate and creativity are phenomenal. Not even just on the projects he leads, either! He's often contributing artwork, frankensprites, play testing, a highlight map (or more) and sometimes even his own MIDI creations, and that's basically every month. The other DBP leaders have stepped up their game since the early days, but I feel like that's both because of how above and beyond Billy goes, and also to stand alongside him. Glen's been keeping a running total of DBP map submissions, and Billy is up to something silly like 65 right now, and that's in roughly two years, IIRC. Chuck in all of the asset creation and curation, and he's been an absolute dynamo. Don't get me wrong, the DBP krew is a hardworking bunch, but even in that context I'd say Billy shines brightly. Plus, he's a great guy to work with! 16 Share this post Link to post
seed Posted August 1, 2020 Can agree with that too, I found the DBP surprisingly consistent and getting progressively better with each installment, with the only exception of maybe Biotech, I personally wasn't so impressed with it. But the rest are very good. 3 Share this post Link to post

CBM Posted August 14, 2020 (edited) I vote for doom -1 it is a never seen before concept that deserves recognition plus the levels themselves are not bad either of course I might be biased as I have contributed to the project 2 Share this post Link to post
SlayerOGames666 Posted August 16, 2020 Good wad - DOOM-1 (Newest version by the time Cacowards get chosen!) Worst wad - Serious Sam: The Hell Encounter (Beta) 3 Share this post Link to post

Jayextee Posted August 21, 2020 I have been thoroughly-impressed with both Shrine 2 and DBP26: The City of Damned Children. Both have amazing and singular atmospheres and interesting aesthetics. 8 Share this post Link to post

SiFi270 Posted August 25, 2020 Redemption of the Slain, by TheCastle. Yes, the same one behind half of NRftL. Originally released in 2017 with Brutt in mind, and not really enough ammo to get through an early part with vanilla weapons. The latest release has finally solved that issue, so the way I see it, the one possible obstacle keeping it from contending/winning should be gone now. 1 Share this post Link to post

Xaser Posted August 27, 2020 The Cacowards staff does tend to show a little leeway when it comes to projects being in beta, but it at least has to be final-ish -- e.g. in a reasonably complete state, or a single episode out of an episodic set. Works that are very heavily in-progress, like Doom -1, are not going to be considered eligible just yet. 6 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted August 27, 2020 Just want the second the mention of @Big Ol Billy for some kind of recognition. From the literal moment he came to the community with "Doomguy Gets a Puppy" I predicted he'd be a creative mastermind of Doom modding, and the prediction has so far been proven accurate time and time again. 12 Share this post Link to post
Zolgia108 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) +1 for Bastion of Chaos by @Bridgeburner56 awesome work of art, it's beautiful to see and painful to play, right what we need in doom! 7 Share this post Link to post
MattFright Posted August 29, 2020 (edited) Three Is A Crowd by @Scypek2 - Best vanilla megawad i've played so far, got my expectations subverted at every map. Shrine II by @scumhead and @Mengo923 - Best gameplay mod (and full conversion) i've played this year. The artstyle is also pretty neat. Edited August 29, 2020 by MattFright : found mengo's profile, so i fixed it so as to not trigger my OCD 6 Share this post Link to post

Endless Posted September 3, 2020 (edited) I haven't decided about a wad yet, but I do have two persons in mind. @Big Ol Billy as mapper of the year for his great contributions to the world of wads. Directing and making various Doomer Boards Community Project maps, this author has unquestionable mapping skills and true vision. And this one is special for me. @kmxexii for an Espi award (or a honorary award of a kind.) He is not a map maker, coder, or mod creator, but I believe he has done more than anyone else to care for, respect, and give love to Doom WADs, and lots of authors owe him a big one for sharing their works. With over 800+ reviews on his ONEMANDOOM blog and one huge archive of WAD screenshots, captures and gif, he has done an insane amount of work and writing that I still can't find anyone else to top. He has my greatest respects and is one big inspiration. He authored the Cacowards for a time too, and sadly, he's currently inactive, but I still think he deserves way more recognition for the great work he did for almost a decade. Chalibluefin Posted September 3, 2020 ++++ For Refracted Reality A really passionate driven project made with blood sweat and tears and really bringing out that vaporwave/surreal architecture that is seldom seen in Doom Projects. Refracted Reality deserves a chance for a cacoward. 0 Share this post Link to post

obake Posted September 5, 2020 + @Big Ol Billy as mapper of the year. He's done so much to help this community, and made excellent projects all around. 5 Share this post Link to post

Back before I started mapping I would read ONEMANDOOM for recommendations and analysis, and it was a huge inspiration that set me off on the path I’m on now. Kmx’s deep appreciation for design philosophies, author careers, and thematic aspects of map—all the stuff that gets deeper than “well is it fun?” while not being totally separate from that question either—helped me see how much one could put into a Doom map. I’m not embarrassed to admit that thoughts of “if this is good enough, maybe kmx will review it some day!” kept me going at times. I’m sure many players and mappers have stories about his impact, and it would be great to bring those out while the memory of ONEMANDOOM (at least as a regularly updated part of yer standard weekly Doom diet) is fresh in people’s minds. 13 Share this post Link to post
