It's hauntingly quiet in this valley/cave... A speedmap for 3x3, a community project currently being orchestrated by Yours Truly.

This many Megaspheres and Invuls can only mean one thing. The second of my own maps for 3x3.

 

And yes, that layout is entirely hexagon-based.

Next and last map I'll do is going to be a non-linear city map. Haven't done it before but I'm kind of excited. As you've noticed already, I've changed the sky texture to some dark clouds as the one I used previously looked boring (also have to fix the cut on that sky texture but I don't know how to).

you can add the same sky patch but mirrored, and put it in the right of the sky, where in the left is the original. I think for a cloud map this can work

Nah, I just drew a hexagon-shaped sector and copy-pasted it a bunch of times to create the layout. There's a pretty nifty method for drawing (near-)perfect hexagons in UDB: draw a line, curve it at an angle of 180 degrees with 2 vertices, copy-paste the resulting lines, rotate them 180 degrees and attach the top/bottom vertices to those of the opposite "half-hexagon". The rule of thumb is to consider how long you want each side of the hexagon to be and make the initial line twice that length.

 

The method is pretty hard to explain without a visual reference, but I hope you got the gist of it. I'm actually contemplating making a tutorial for it.

No, but it's easy to make hexagons out of squares and squares out of hexagons.

Triangles, squares, and hexagons are the regular polygons that allow Euclidean tiling, so you can always map them in a regular way. Ever notice all the hexagon textures in Doom? And remember when cutting out sector tiles for them was all the rage?

Dude, you kinda in no need to post one image = one post tho.

Sure this looks fine but still, if you post something please do it in one post, you're not limited in img count, just use "spoiler" for amount higher than 3.
