StormCatcher.77 Posted January 11, 2020 (edited) Something like this: Spoiler It is very difficult to choose which genre is the most extreme, because the criteria for this "extreme" is very indistinct and individual. I see concept of extremity like an ability of composition to remove or reduce a sudden powerful flow of negativity that can occur for various reasons. This tracks the largest caliber for my anxieties and fears. Music that just can bring tranquility... I also can refer here music with ultimate high BPM, like extratone, flashcore or speedcore. FractalBeast Posted January 11, 2020 Here's a nice in-between-form. Dissecting Table is a 20-30 year old noise/industrial project by a Japanese guy who perfectly bridges between noise/power electronics and death metal/grindcore. 1 Share this post Link to post

If you know what splittercore music is extratone is the big brother of that Seeing that song was made in Ejay Dance 5 has filled me with nostalgia. So I guess I made extratone music by mistake as a kid when jokingly ramping up the BPM to 2k++ and trying to make it sound even slightly listenable in that program, hah. As for this thread, I was expecting a bunch of black metal, goregrind etc, but pleasantly surprised to see how everyone's actually talking about a wide variety of different 'extreme' genres, actually quite fascinating - from Metal origins to EDM origins, with everything in between, too. I can't say that much of this music is for me, but there's certainly something to enjoy from time to time in music based around chaotic dissonance. Here's a track I have absolutely no idea how to place a genre on. Self declared as "Spazzpop", whatever that means. I wouldn't consider it extreme, but it's certainly not your everyday radio music, heh: 2 Share this post Link to post
reflex17 Posted January 11, 2020 It all depends on how you define extreme. Also the question is raised of the anti-extreme. Things that are so non-extreme that they are like a polar opposite of extreme, and therefore extreme in their own right. Warning: I'm going to put this in spoiler tags because it's quite possibly radioactive and hazardous to small children and the elderly Spoiler 3 Share this post Link to post

Nine Inch Heels Posted January 11, 2020 Ooooh, an opportunity to drop some obscurities: Use with caution: TerrorCore: Experimental Noise: Maybe some of this is "extreme enough™". At any rate, I think whatever is perceived as extreme is usually also kind of an outlier in its own kind of genre. For example, "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" is quite an extreme piece of music in its own right. If you wanna know what I mean: If you get an opportunity to listen to this live and in person, on location, don't pass it up. Trust me. ;-) 5 Share this post Link to post
Aurelius Posted January 11, 2020 (edited) Extreme is of course is in the ear(?) of the beholder. Here's a few that get me in the mood, though they may not be the most "extreme" by some people's standards. Simple but effective. Grindcore in general pretty much lives and breathes extreme, but there truly good ones are difficult to come by. The Wicked is a relatively unknown band from Finland, and does quite a nice combination of orchestral, black metal and film score type music. I chose a song that fits the bill, but basically both of their published albums are beautiful creations in the more extreme genre. If I've piqued your interested, Sonic Scriptures Of The End Times Or Songs To Have Your Nightmares With is a masterpiece album in many regards (yes, the entire thing is the name of the album). Ajattara might not be the kind of fast stuff like the previous I mentioned, but it definitely has that extreme atmosphere. Works well for jogging. 3 Share this post Link to post

durian Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) I don't know about most extreme, but this thread would be incomplete without a little gabber. -edit- Breakcore had its moments, too. Oh, and no free jazz? Edited January 12, 2020 by durian 2 Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted January 13, 2020 always occurs to me that you can eventually acquire the taste of any set of sounds even if they punish the ears but if the lyrics are extreme you'll never entirely reconcile listening to it. boyd rice and neofolk and all that shite is unlistenable to me for that reason but so are the offspring lol 1 Share this post Link to post
qdash Posted January 13, 2020 (edited) Most brutal death(!!!)grind I ever heard: It's still deathgrind, not goregrind, but fast and brutal as f*ck. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mayomancer Posted January 13, 2020 You could make and argument for war metal and grind, though there are more experimental genres as mentioned before 0 Share this post Link to post
kinker31 Posted January 14, 2020 So, you want music so extreme you're half-convinced music critics don't even know what music is, eh? Well, if you think noise is somehow an example of music, but you still want instruments in the loosest sense of word, may I suggest: The Atonal Genre! It's... uh... music (I think) where the musicians do what's basically the equivalent of randomly mashing buttons with no rhyme or reason to it whatsoever. Because nothing says good music like wanting to gouge out your ears because of either the nonstop wall of instrument-based noise, or because you don't wanna hear perfectly good instruments turned into tuneless husks of their former selves! On the polar end of the spectrum, we've got lowercase music, just in case you wanted to mix music that's playing too quietly with John Cage's 4'33"! What's that, you were waiting for the music to start and wondering when those faint pops and crackles would give way to actual music? You silly DUNCE, that was the music! Because nothing says good music like spending hours endlessly guessing when the actual music's gonna start while it's playing! Then there's the audible and Strong Saddian cousin, Dark Ambient/Hauntology. Because nothing says good music like wanting to blow your brains out out of pure sadness and depression! I myself, however, will prefer to stay the Philistine route of comedy music, and mostly anything with an actual melody/rhythm to it. But, if you really really really wanna listen to any of the above, I'm not stopping you from doing do. I consider those kinds of experimental genres moreso a penance than anything. 0 Share this post Link to post

stinkfist Posted January 17, 2020 Green Day probably some of the most raw and real stuff I’ve ever heard, really hard stuff. Used to smoke cigarettes and drink my parents booze and pretend I was having an existential crisis. 0 Share this post Link to post
