A couple questions from a source port newbie

Recommended Posts

Grew up playing Doom 1, 2 on DOS and Doom95 but used GZDoom when I first got back into it along with Zandronum for multiplayer. I recently switched to PrBoom+ so I can record and watch demos and get an even more "true" experience.

How do I make it so monsters make their alert sound when they kill another monster while infighting? I haven't figured out how to do this with any source port.

And is it me, or does PrBoom+ sometimes (but very rarely) not register point blank SSG shots or somehow completely miss an enemy's hitbox? For some reason it seems most common with pinkies. It's happened in demos I've recorded and I've seen it in other people's demos.

It is probably this: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Flawed_collision_detection

Using PrBoom+ as my main port for over a decade, this has always worked for me IIRC. But I am still on 2.5.1.0 so conceivably it's a regression? Try asking in the main thread, especially if you have a lmp handy.

Not trying to accidentally white-knight my favorite classic source port, but I recommend Chocolate/Crispy Doom.

It's a good way to play DooM in a way that makes it as close to Dos as possible without the tedious process of setting it up.

Just pop in some IWADs and enjoy! :)
